“Just what a boutique hotel should be”

Portixol Hotel and Restaurant

Hotel Portixol is slightly out on a limb being a 30 minute walk along the sea front to the centre of the old town (5mins in a taxi).

Situated right on the coast overlooking a little Marina (the gin palaces are parked elsewhere!) the hotel feels just like a boutique hotel should. It is intimate but buzzy. The bi-lingual staff are extremely welcoming and both restaurant and bar are attractive and inviting.

The room I had was spacious (large walk in shower no bath) with a large terrace overlooking the mediteranean. It was simplistic in design and the bed comfortable.

Being one who generally avoids large hotels, I loved the sense of calm that this very well run hotel conveys. The buzzing bar at night made you feel close to the action even though the small street outside and surrounding area reflected the tranquility of the Portixol area.

A good hotel. Not cheap but you know you are getting something for your money here

For as long as i am aware, I have thought that Mallorca and its capital Palma were to be avoided at all cost, since the island was in my believe the example of mass-tourism gone horribly wrong. How wrong was I! I stayed 4 nights at the Portixol and this hotel absolutely has changed my opinion about Mallorca, Palma and about what a fabulous hotel stay can be like. The hotel is in every aspect exceptional. Its pitoresce location in a small and low key community just outside Palma is just 10 minutes from the airport. This area offers some really nice restaurants, good beaches and wonderful walking/skating/biking boulevard. The hotel itself has been decorated in a mix of cool, retro, comfortable and stylish design. It reminded me to an old ocean liner in certain areas and to a miami beach deco hotel around the pool, gym and spa. It truly has its own style and definitely this is quality design. We stayed the first night in a seaview balcony room. The room was average in size, but tremendously comfortable. Terrace was nice and big and facing south. Our room was on the third floor and although the rooms on the second floor have larger balconies, I would recommend to ask for a third floor room, since the second floor rooms overlook the roof of restaurant and other areas and the higher rooms just have a better view. The room is fitted with a high quality sound system, which is wonderful since the hotel has a huge library of dvd's and cd's including a series of their own cd's with cool loungy music that fits this hotel perfectly. There was so much to do in and around the hotel that I did not get to experience the 'watching a dvd in bed', but i can imagine that on a rainy day this is a great option. After one night we were able to switch to the Atico. Can I just say: this is the most amazing hotel room experience I ever had. Although the room is small, it has an huge roof terrace, with comfortable outdoor living room, dining area, sunbathing area and best of all a very large outdoor bathtub with a fantastic and unobstructed view over the sea in all directions. wow!
We spend evenings in the tub drinking wine, watching the sunset and although the outdoor temperature dropped to single digits, the tub let us enjoy the outdoors until very late, how fabulous! Lunch on the roof was another spectacular experience and taking an outdoor shower overlooking the sea, Palma ctiy and Mallorca is an absolutely revitalizing experience. Indoor bathroom was no less spectacular, but so many options, the indoor tub and shower were not used by us. The hotel also provides super nice bathing products and towels are of the very very good quality.

Breakfast in the restaurant is wonderful, although in Spain products are offered that are not all my choice for breakfast. The first few days we missed the option to have egs and bacon made to order, but the buffet itself is wonderful and plenty of choice. And how about freshly squeezed orange juice and a proper latte for breakfast! You don't see that a lot any more. The cava I ordered was not on my bill when I checked out, although I think that was just forgotten. The restaurant overlooks a very nice pool area. There was no one there when we were there and it may get crowded and ' hyped' in summer, it definitely has the potential for that. I can certainly see myself here in summer hanging out at the pool and probably spending a fortune on drinks. This is the type of environment where you are feeling so fabulous you don't care about the money anymore.

We also had dinner at the restaurant once and this was all very nice, but slightly expensive. There is a bar where we had mojito's and they were definitely of good quality.

One of the more funky facilities of this hotel is its 'living room'. This beautiful loungy room has a huge collection of 80s and 90s records and singles and I had a great night here playing my favorite songs here. it is do-it-yourself and SO MUCH FUN.

I also used their gym twice. This stylish area offers above average equipment including a cross trainer and stationary bike. Weights and machines seemed in good condition and I would think that a more advanced person could do an absolutely adequate work out here. The gym also offered a sauna and outdoor plunge pool and hottub. This hotel truly didnt stop where other hotels do.

Free internet in the lobby and room and free bicycles for guests. These top quality bicycles added so much to our trip. We did not touch our car for the durationof the trip. The hotel is located on a boulevard that runs from close to the airport all the way to the other end of the city of Palma. Palma is just spectacular and we thought the beach was stunning. This is a really a place where all aspects come together. We were here for a short stay, but I can totally imagine myself enjoying a week or longer in a place like this. This is also a great place to go in winter. We had sunny days and 20 degrees in december and i returned with a tan.

I kept the best for last: the staff. Where did the hotel find these people? It is not possible to train staff to be this nice, so I would think they really enjoy working here. Have not seen that in a while. We encountered the most friendly and funny staff in this hotel, the hotel manager kissed us at goodbye, i love it! Everyone was SO nice! True: this hotel offers spectacular location, services and facilities but one would get used to this. I will never get used to friendly staff, it is so refreshing and added 100% extra to our joy of staying at the Portixol. This is not a hotel I would want to keep for myself, go experience it, You will love it.

Two points that could be better, parking is a problem (although free) and the hotel can only be booked by contacting them by phone or email.

“Very Chic Boutique Hotel.”

Lovely boutique hotel just outside of Palma (5km along the beach). Very helpful, kind and smart staff, speaking Spanish, English, German and Swedish who went out of their way to accomodate, but were not over
attentive, just the right balance.

The hotel is very sexy and attracts a very cool and upmarket social scene. There is a lovely pool and divine spa and relaxation room coupled with an excellent album and DVD selection. You could easily stay here for a week and feel at home, yet close to the attractions of
Palma.

Just returned from a two night stay at the Portixol. It was fantastic. The hotel itself is a small property with a great restaurant and bar. Lots of nice places to sit and relax and its situation is stunning beside a small marina with working fishing boats and overlooking the mediterranean. We had a port view room on the fourth floor overlooking the marina with a view to Palma in the distance.

The room was small but beautifully decorated and one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in for a long time. Above all what makes this hotel special is the staff. They were friendly, polite and incredibly helpful to a man and woman. My girlfriend and I can't wait to go back.

Second time round and it just gets better. I won't repeat the details others have already given but give Portixol the perfect mark for the FANTASTIC friendliness and the attention given by the young and incredibly professional staff in this hotel. Nothing is too much for them, from 'mending' mobile phones, tracing and arranging the delivery of a camera left in a taxi - NOT ordered from the hotel, to laughing with the guests at surprise morning entertainment at the harbour! These are the people who make the Potixol the superb hotel it is. Rooms 10 and 14 thank you all for a wonderful week, complete with tornado views!
Looking forward to arranging the next visit asap.
