“A Great Place To Walk Or Ride The Subway!”

Berlin is one of those cities where its not only easy to get around but avoiding autos is highly desirable.

The city subway system is clean, efficient and friendly. At 0100, I found teens, young adults, single women riding the system, feeling safe, having fun but not disturbing the others and certainly not causing problems. The city is clean and you get that wide open feeling.

I went in September and the temperatures were pleasant, allowing me to walk across its big wide spaces and enjoy the deep history the city offers. The wall that separated East from West is all but gone yet its location is marked by a simple double-brick path that weaves through the city - on streets, sidewalks and grassy areas. They never want to forget.

You can rent a car or take a taxi in Berlin but do yourself a favor and spend time just walking around.

I loved Berlin. so much recent history. So powerful the places you see and what Berliners have overcome. I did two walking tours and they were fantastic. I can't wait to go back. Berlin was the best place I have travelled to!

Berlin has plenty of history and incredibly cheap. OK..You can do in berlin everything you can in any major European capital..but you will never get the most bang for your money. The people are not in a hurry, are not pretentious..they feel very folksy..very real. Everything runs on time and moves around quick. It is also one of the cities that most look like an American city to me in central Europe.

“5 (3) days in Berlin”

I've been in Berlin for 3 days plus 2 days of travelling.
It's a huge city with a lot of history! I need to come back for sure.
We started our visit by a free tour around Berlin. Perfect to get a general view of the city and what things you want to do later. The tour lasted 5 hours instead of 3.5 hours. It's an excellant price/value!
In total, we did 3 museums and 1 pub crawl. The musems are the Altes Museum, the Jewish and the photography Museum. The first two are huge! To fully appreciate the Egyptian exposition and the Jewish cultur, you need at least 1 day each.
The pub crawl is a tour around 5 pubs/clubs around the city. Interessing and you get to meet with some other tourists from all over the world. It costs 10 euro including some free shots. (not bad at all)
One thing you have to know, smoking is still allowed in public area. Personnaly, I hate it. Non smokers can have a hard time in pubs.

We went to Berlin for 5 days on 18/09/07.Flew into Schonefeld by Ryan air .Got the X7 bus at the door to Rudow U Bahn.station. Travelled to Adenauerplatz .The ticket cost € 2.20 this gives 2 hours travel in one direction with changes between any of the 4 BVG transit systems. If I was going again I would buy a day ticket for €6.10 and this lasts till 3 AM. Tickets can be used on the U bahn (Underground) S Bahn (local train) Bus and Trams. Berlin has the best integrated public transport system I have ever used .The frequency of the buses ( arrival times and destinations on electronic bus stops) and trains is fantastic . I would recommend the 100 bus route for sightseeing as it goes past all the tourist sights.
The places we enjoyed were the Reichstag ( Government building ) the second best view in Berlin but go early as the Queues are long .free entry. A short cruise on the river Spree .The TV tower and Alexanderplatz.. Friedrichstrasse railway station with its great old pictures of East Berlin in the Sixties there are loads of food outlets and free entertainment on the stage at lunchtime. We found the shopping all over Berlin was good with prices better than England or Ireland on clothes and small electronic goods. All the upmarket designer shops are also well represented mostly on the Kurfurstendamm . We also found that C & A are still alive and well all over Berlin.
Eating out has a meaning of its own in Berlin most of the population seem to eat lunch on the go with more kinds of fast food than you could name on every street and plaza with the most popular being Curry Wurst and Kebabs and Hotdogs a close third. A Good selection of restaurants are available with every ethnic type of food you could want. One of the best value evening eateries was the Movenpick in the Europa centre ath the Zoo end of Kurfurstendamm.
The hotel we stayed in was the Agon litchburg near Adenauerplatz it was a 70’s style hotel with good staff and clean linen and good breakfast but the bathroom needed a makeover there was no shower Curtin and the ceiling was peeling . We had booked the Agon Frankfurter or the Motel One but these were not available for our dates, they had come well recommended. Over all we enjoyed Berlin and would recommend it for a city break.
