We stayed in the Agon for four nights in November. Despite there being a strike, we managed to get from Schoenefeld to the hotel with ease (using the S9 train which didn't take as long as anticipated based on previous reviews). The hotel was a great base for the City Centre, with the nearest U Bahn stop (Samariterstrasse) at the end of the next street. It takes less than 10 mins on U5 to get from there to Alexander Platz which we found to be an excellent base for the 4 days. All trains/buses to the usual tourist attractions went from there and getting around the city was unbelievably easy. We got the 72 Hour Welcome Card which included a booklet with discounts on lots of the tourist places (inc DDR Museum, Checkpoint Charlie Museum, Berlin Store to name but a few).
We booked a double room and found it to be spacious and immaculate every day. The hotel staff were very friendly and spoke good English. Breakfast was included in our very reasonable price for the stay and there were many options available each morning. Cold meats, cheese, cereal, yoghurts, muesli etc - if you want a fry up, you're in the wrong country but cakes for breakfast was an added bonus!
There were ample shops and restaurants in the vicinity however as it was so easy to get into the City Centre up until midnight, we ate out in town every night. The area by the hotel is well lit and we felt completely safe walking around at night. There is a great shop on the corner of Kinzigstrasse which sells everything from snacks to extremely cheap alcohol. We've never seen large bottles of Becks so cheap!!! The staff were also very friendly.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the stay at the Agon and would definitely refer our friends there and would stay again. Don't be put off by the location as it really is very easy and quick to get into the City Centre. Trains going every 5 mins except on a Sunday when they're every 10 mins!
