“What a gem!”

Askanischer Hof

May 16, 2008

Stayed in this hotel over Christmas 2007. Enjoyed ourselves a lot!
Location of the hotel is superb - it's right on the Kurfurstndamm (not sure aobut the spelling), but anyway, this is one of the main streets in the centre of the city.

The hotel is a floor in a residential building. I loved the level of detailing in the hotel's attitute to clients. One evening we have found Christmas sweets and decorations in our room - what a lovely touch and how nice it is to feel that someone cares aobut you!

Rooms are old-fashioned, but certainly have charm (as well as comfort). Breakfast is superb - very good quality products and a beautiful dining room - it felt like we are having breakfast in some aristocratic villa/castle together with the royal family. :)

Would definately recommend this hotel to everyone and would most certainly stay here again and again! Special thanks to the owners/managers of the hotel for their care and attention - we felt very welcome and are very grateful for the amazing time in the hotel!

“Very nice Berlin Hotel”

Askanischer Hof

May 8, 2008

We stayed at the Askanscher Hof for 3 nights together with 3 other couples (friends). We all got very nice rooms; and some of them were really spacious. They were all spotlessly clean. Our group also had our own oval breakfast-table every morning, with great service. Order an egg – just to get the cute little egg-warmers!

We did not have the largest room, but one of nicest. We had our own little “garden-terrace” (see pic) facing the boulevard.

Kurfürstendamm (or Kudamm, as the locals say), is former West-Berlin. If you want to stay at this part of the town the location is great. Kudamm is a nice boulevard with a lot of great designer-shops. If we go back to this part of town I would certainly try to get a room at the A. Hof.

But; I think that the most exciting areas of Berlin today are in the former East parts of the town. We will probably rather stay in one of these areas next time. Having said that – it is easy to get to these parts of town from the Askanischer Hof using the S-Bahn, that takes you right to Alexanderplatz or the Museum Island.

We loved Berlin – and we will be back!

    • Liked — Nice rooms, good breakfast, great location at the Kudamm
    • Disliked — I had placed the order for our group, having a hard time convincing some of the others to stay there. I therfore disliked that the staff let the once who get there first pick the rooms they liked, leving for us to take what was left. Were a bit dissapointet in the beginning, but loved the room in the end!

“Excellent Central Hotel”

Askanischer Hof

Apr 17, 2008

Just returned from a week stay at the Askanischer Hof. It lives up to it's reputation as a classy hotel, in a classy area of Berlin. Outlook from my bedroom was Chanel & Cartier. Dining room very comfortable and spacious with a good selection of breakfast options. Hotel staff friendly and helpful.
An hotel with real character and style. Thoroughly recommend a stay there.

“Tripadvisor advises well!”

Askanischer Hof

We used Tripadvisor to help select this hotel for a short stay last month, and it was the right thing to do (again). Our room was a superior one overlooking the street. Noise was not a problem, but if it had been then we would have just shut the door to the little study (which was on the street side of the bedroom). The room was tall and elegant, immaculately clean, and bright with pleasant "classic" furnishings. Superb bathroom.

Staff were attentive, English-speaking, and nothing seemed to be the slightest problem to them. Lovely breakfasts too in an interesting room with photos of what appears to be old cabaret stars adorning the walls.

It's worth noting that you can take one of the frequent S-Bahn trains direct from the main airport (Schonefeld) to Savignyplatz, which is about 500m of easy walking from the hotel (or a quick taxi ride).

Also, the hotel is accessed via a shared door (the reception is staffed at all times so there's no problem), then a lift (or stairs) takes you up to the hotel itself.

The shops in the vicinity are mostly top designer shops, which gives an indication of the type of area! Head back to Savignyplatz for a selection of great restaurants.

“old style grandeur”

Askanischer Hof

Mar 4, 2008

we recently returned from berlin, having stayed in the askanischer hof hotel for 3 nights. this hotel is is a great location in the middle of k'damm. there are 2 underground stations nearby, and the bus service is handy.
the hotel itself is something out of the ordinary. my first thought was that it was a touch of faded grandeur- but in fact the hotel is a touch of class. the room we were given was right next to reception- yet we never heard a noise. the room itself was enormous- and very comfortable. the bathroom was modern and spotless, with a better shower than we have at home!. there was even a little library in the corner of the room . the staff were extrememley courteous and the breakfast was great- its worth asking for a boiled egg just to get the little egg cosy it is served with.
berlin is a fantastic city- and really friendly- which i wasn't expecting. the highlights were the holocaust memorial and museum, the reichstag, brandenburg gate and the topography of terror- which would make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck.
eating out was reasonably priced and delicious. i would recommend reinhard's restaurant particularly.
