It is difficult to find fault with this hotel (but I have!). When we arrived late (thank you Air Berlin) the reception was cheerful and helpful. We had booked a double room and this had a sofa and two easy chairs, superb bathroom with shower and a bath big enough for two and really comfortable beds. There wasn't a view from the room (except over a naturist health club) but we were out most of the day. The hotel has an excellent spa area with a hot sauna, cold room and tepid room as well as a seperate ladies sauna cabin. The relax area was good enough to stay in. This costs an extra 7 euros. Included in the room rate is a good sized swimming pool with loungers. The staff here were very helpful and friendly.
Breakfast was excellent with an enormous choice arranged buffet style. Most mornings I had an creamy oaty cereal followed by smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and then a bowl of fresh fruit. They never minded that I started with a pot of tea and finished with a coffee. There was an area set aside for smokers at the back of the room so the rest of us were OK. But the breakfast room is where I found fault. One day a lady was allowed to bring her dog into the breakfast room and more seriously there were no guards over the food to protect against coughs and sneezes.
The location of the hotel was excellent too. Within a couple of minutes there were two U Bahn stations and the best bus routes for the 'sights' passed by the door.
Two recommendations to add to those in other reviews. We took the walking tour of Potsdam and had a fascinating and well informed tour of the town and palaces. The guide was an American student in Berlin and really on top of the information.
We also found an excellent vegetarian restaurant in Kreuzberg called Cafe V. Having lived in Brighton I can say that only Terre a Terre beats it and then not by much. It isn't in the most salubrious area of Berlin but we never found Berlin a threatening city.
if you haven't been - go. And stay at the Palace Hotel.
