“Great spot, big room, but not as good as we hoped.”

We were expecting great things of the Hotel Mueller after reading the innumerable 5 star reviews on Tripadvisor. We came away just a little disappointed. We loved our "room", which was huge, more like a suite. The traditional decoration was delightful, and it had a huge bathroom and a seperate walk in closet, as well as its' own entrance hall. The room had a spectacular view of the Hohenschwangau Schloss - so far, all good! Our slight diappointment lay in the fact that while checking in, the staff seemed to want us to book for dinner immediately in the hotel, and the information given to us was somewhat rushed and condensed. Later that evening I noticed some new guests (Americans) checking in, and they were being given very attentive service and being given much more detailed information than we had received. Not sure if this was because we were only staying the one night, or because we had our scruffy hiking gear on?....Maybe I am being oversensitive, but this was the most expensive hotel we stayed in in 6 weeks, it was our "treat" hotel, and we managed to feel a bit second rate here.
The breakfast was quite good, but I found out later that we could have asked for egg & bacon etc. to be cooked, but we were not told this previously. That being said, when I went to use the free internet, it was not responding, so the kind ladies in reception at the time let me use their staff computer to contact home. The hotel is certainly beautifully situated, we had an easy 5 minute walk uphill to Hohenschwangau, and a somewhat harder 30 minute walk up to Neuschwanstein.

“Great jumping point for Ludwig's castles”

Great location, great staff, great room, loved the muller. We were there for 2 nights in May and booked 2 rooms. One room was a suite that had a living room view of the castle and the other was just a basic room. The best part of both rooms was the access to a HUGE terrace. There were a total of 4 rooms that could access the terrace and we were using 2 of them. We never saw the other two room occupants so we had to entire terrace to ourselves. Over the course of 2 days we probably spent 7-8 hours sitting out there enjoying the views of the castle and the weather. YOU HAVE TO REQUEST A ROOM THAT CAN ACCESS THE TERRACE. I believe our room numbers were 27 and 11, with 11 being the suite.

The staff was outstanding, booking us a car back to munich airport, a taxi to the linderhof, and a horse carriage to the neuschwanstein.

we ate dinner in the hotel restaurant and were sure to request a table on their enclosed porch that offers great views of the castle. the food and service were great.

a note though: the town of hohenschwangau pretty much shuts down at 8 pm after all the tourists visiting the castles leave. so dont expect to be able to do anything in the town after 8. youll have to take a taxi over to fussen if your a night owl.

“Loved the asparagus”

Akzent Hotel Muller

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights whilst visiting the nearby medieval pastiche of a castle "Neuschwanstein" built by the mad King Ludwig II of Bavaria in the 1860's. We chose a suite as it had views over the castle (the back of the castle as it turns out). There was a large communal balcony and sun-bathing area outside

We had a warm welcome from the very friendly proprietors, and the hotel has its own car park next door, which is useful in this very busy tourist village. It is conveniently situated next to the ticket office for both castles in the village (book in advance on the internet), and the horse-drawn coaches leave from right outside the hotel, and the minibus goes up to Neuschwanstein from only 100 yards away.

Our suite was very spacious and well appointed in the Germanic heavy style. We dined in the hotel both nights, in the main dining room the first night when the proprietors apologised for the fact that they could only get us into the conservatory dining room with its view over the castle for the second night. Food was good, although we seemed to find a problem with saltiness everywhere during 10 days in Germany. German white asparagus was in season, so there was soup, starters or main courses with it. Hence the origin of my gout when I got home!Service was good throughout the hotel.

The only problems we found were a broken (you had to pull the button up on the handset manually when you lifted up the receiver) though usable telephone in our suite (Room 10), which was not fixed while we were there, and the internet was broken in reception until the last morning.

With the £ at 1.2 to the Euro, 250 Euros a night was not cheap to us, but overall we enjoyed our stay. Be aware that the village gets terribly busy in the season, and there are lots of coach parties staying at the various hotels, including Japanese whilst we were there in Hotel Mueller.

“Not one to let you down”

Akzent Hotel Muller

May 19, 2008

Used Tripadvisor to find this one and as usual we were not disappointed. Excellent, friendly staff & wonderful location sets this hotel up for providing you with a great experience. A superb restaurant with fine food and good wine selection adds the extra oomph. Not much to add in addition. Highly recommended for a short stay in beautiful Bavaria.
