If you have a family that includes two teenagers and a ten year old you will already know how difficult it is to find spacious, decent quality accommodation at reasonable prices.
Will it be a couple of cramped hotel rooms, invariably on different floors despite requests for them to be adjoining, or an apartment that involves so many of the household tasks you are supposed to be having a break from?
Well, step forward Hotel Bavaria, Berchtesgaden, and particularly its top floor family suite.
For a start, the hotel is perfectly placed between rail station and town. It looks classically Bavarian and the theme continues inside. It all feels fresh and clean and is lovingly maintained by the friendly staff.
Our apartment comprised one double bedroom, a kitchen (which had an extra bed for our purposes), large living room (ample room for a twin bed in the corner), bathroom (inc jacuzzi) and balcony (with a to-die-for view of Mt Watzmann).
The breakfast is an absolute gut-buster, and though we didn't try it, the restaurant also looked up to the mark.
We've stayed in lots of hotels throughout Europe but this is the first one we've been moved to write a review on.
Check the hotel's own website - or get them to post you the brochure. The other rooms all seemed individualistic and of similar standard.
You might think It all looks a little bit too good to be true, and we wondered as much ourselves on the train down from Munich. But we weren't disappointed, and would be very surprised if anyone else was.
