I read the reviews of other guests and all their comments as to the great quality of this hotel were not eggagerated in any way . I hope to be able to return to Bechtesgaden and would not consider staying anywhere else and have recommended Wittelsbach to a number of friends.

Since Myself and two of my sons had stayed at The Wittelsbach in 1999 and were really pleased with it, I deceided to book it again for a trip to Bavaria with 5 of my sons last September. Once again we were pleased with the accomodations, the hospitality of the staff and the price (which includes a hearty breakfast). My youngest son and I shared the same room we had in 1999 which had a balcony overlooking Maximillian Strasse with a fantastic view of the mountains and the valley below. We were driving an 8 passenger van and the hotel offers free parking just outside the door.The Salt mines and the cablecar to Obersalzberg are both a short 10 minute walk. Side trips to Eagles Nest, Konigsee and Salzberg Austria are all easy (less than a half hour) drive. We spent 4 days in Berchtesgaden and all of us agree that it was the best part of our Bavarian vacation.

This hotel should be rated 5 star (and probably would be if it had a bar)!! We paid twice as much per night at other hotels, and the 5 star hotels did not have as large or as nice rooms. The person at the desk (the owner, I think) was fluent in English and very helpful too. We are a family of four (two small children) and the room we were given is actually two adjoining rooms that share a bathroom in between. I've lived in apartments that were smaller than this room! The location is excellent and there is free parking behind the hotel. You are crazy if you even consider any other hotel!!!!

My husband, my son and I stayed at Hotel Wittelsbach when we were in Berchtesgaden earlier this month. It was a great hotel! We had a great view from our room and the room itself was very large by European standards. The beds were comfortable and the staff was very helpful. In particular, I should mention Petra Wimmer, as have other reviewers. She was very kind and informative. She was able to help us plan out our train trips from there and printed out several alternative itineraries without hesitation. There is a laundry next door which was very convenient. It is actually attached to the hotel, but guests have to leave the hotel and then enter the laundry from the street. There is a beer vending machine in the laundry room which prompted my husband to volunteer to do the wash. (: Very clean, very welcoming, affordable, really, a great deal!
