This hotel deserves the good reviews. The cleanliness, decor and service are excellent. If you pay about 20 euro extra for a room with a south facing balcony, you won't regret it. I spent lots of time just sitting there in the evenings, taking in the view of the valley below me and the towering Eagle's Nest in the distance.
From Berchesgaden town centre, there is a fifteen-twenty minute walk to the Krone. The last section is uphill and a little steep but the brief uphill walk is worth it. The area is quiet and very relaxing.
Other reviewers have described well the beautiful bedrooms also. Perhaps some would say that the Krone is too quaint but its cottage-like charm and comfort is something well worth the extremely reasonable price. A very memorable place.

Perfectly charming place on a hill above the town. The rooms themselves feel like antiques, laced with carved wood. Bavarian inded. Hosts were not exceptionally friendly, but polite and helpful. Good breakfasts. Note that, at least for us, charges were Per Person, not per room. Recommended.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 days in April 2007. We had a wonderful time. The hotel is small but nice. We payed a little more for a room facing the alps and it was well worth it. We sat on our balcony every night and just watched the mountains be big.

The front desk was extremely nice and made every effort to help us. They didn't speak any English and we spoke little German but they tried so hard that it all worked out.

My husband left his glasses in the room and they were kind enough to mail them to him.

The town is beautful. Stunning. Words can't decribe. It's like it't frozen in time. Be warned we arrived at 9:00 pm saturday and the whole town was closed down. At 10 we walked through completely deserted streets to get to the pub that was open late. It was a great expirience but don't plan on coming here for night like. Everything was closed Sunday and the shops were closed down by 5:01 pm Monday.

I totally reccomend this hotel and this town. True Bavarian experience.

Hotel Krone is one of our favorite places to stay. Every room has a balcony with a view of the town and the towering mountains. The staff is friendly and very helpful - directions, maps, things to do. If the weather is good you can have breakfast on the patio or in the dining room. You can also order dinner for the evening in advance (the hotel doesn't have its own restaurant). For a small additional fee you have the use of their sauna or whirlpool spa as well.
