“Nice and very good location”

Hotel Edouard VII

4 of 5 stars
Luxembourg
Jan 13, 2008

The hotel is very nice. The reception is relatively small but the lounge and bar is quite impressive and relaxing.
The check-in and check-out were very quick and the staff really helpful in providing information (such as finding taxi etc...).
The room is comfortable but I was given two beds instead of one large bed.
Very good location close to the opera, Galeries Lafayette and not far from the Champs.
Very statisfied but the price is still high even for Paris na dthis is the only Cons that I would have to mention.

“The worst hotel in years!”

Hotel Edouard VII

1 of 5 stars

Well, where do I start? Firstly to put things into perspective, I do alot of travelling and so stay in many hotels. I've stayed in 10 hotels in the last 4 weeks to give you an idea so I reached my opinion below by comparison.

This hotel has been a family run business for many years until recently when a separate management team/company were brought in. I got the impression the changes were made to improve things such as the staff.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and paid $1500. Upon check in our greeting was COLD and rude. The receptionist could hardly muster up a smile. We asked if there were parking facilities or if she knew where we could park and she responded "we have no parking facilities, this is Paris!". We accepted this as parking is limited we know, however other 4 and 5 star central Paris hotels we've stayed at did have subsidised coupons for a nearby carpark. In the end we paid $200 for parking!

After having a pretty terrible sleep for the first two nights (the room thermostat consistently registered 25 degrees) I went to the desk to say the room was incredibly hot and there must be something wrong as it was January after all! We were told the technician was off and there was nothing that could be done but open the windows. We were told the air conditioning was turned off for winter. After stating again the room was 25 degrees, quite uncomfortable and opening the window onto that super busy Parisian street was not that nice or peaceful, and could we move rooms. Amazingly enough we then told that it was our “body heat’ keeping the room so hot and that we could not move. Amazing.

The next evening we had asked for an iron/board and were told they did not have one and that “no hotels in Paris had one”. There was no tea/coffee in the room which I expected for a 4 star hotel and the price. We needed to use the internet for 5 mins. The hotel sells 1 hour cards and 1/2 hour cards but since the 1 hour cards were sold out we were told we had no alternative but to buy the 1 hour card which was something like 20 EUR. 20 EUR for using the internet I ask you!!??

So all in all there were many things that were disappointing. It seemed every time we turned around there was something that was disappointing. What was more frustrating was that the staff showed no concern or really no interest to fix things.

I had a discreet word with the Manageress (who seemed nice) about some of the issues. She said the management were new and are trying to improve things but are finding that some staff won’t change. She was fully aware of the rude individuals. She explained that the hotel had run as a private and small enterprise and individuals are stuck in their ways and just won’t change. She asked me to put my comments in writing, which would help. So, for $1500, rude staff, not much sleep… what a bargain. There are so many nice hotels in Paris to chose from so please do yourself a favour and do not stay here.

“Maps and umbrella at your disposal”

Hotel Edouard VII

4 of 5 stars
New York, NY
Jul 4, 2007

The most impressive feature of this hotel is the lobby. If you have friends meeting you in Paris, you might want to arrange a drink at the hotel bar to get your evening started. The elevator is not recommended for claustrophics (which didn't stop me from using it upon each exit and entry), but the rooms certainly are. I was in a "single", which contained a bed big enough for five, and so much floor space that I regretted not having brought my yoga matt. The balcony, shower&tub bathroom, double-glazed windows, and the detailed information provided by one particularly welcoming "customer relations personnel" made this place seem well above average. On the downside, the olfactorily sensitive may have to beware: They claimed to have put me in a non-smoking room, but to me it reeked of air freshner-veiled stale cigarettes. And the room itself, though delightfully sunny and big, with a fantastic view of the Opera, was overdue for a redecorating. I have no idea what the other rooms look like, but I was surprised that this one looked as dated as it did (for this price). The hotel is in a touristically convenient location, especially if you like opera, couture and Asian food. But if the Marais/Latin Quartier is more your speed, splurge on a smaller room on the east side of Paris. PS. The "fitness center" was not in existence as of my stay...and don't miss shopping at the Monoprix just down the street for decently priced chocolate and coffee souvenirs.

“your nice pleasant home in Paris!”

Hotel Edouard VII

So nice and pleasant stay is related to Edouard VII hotel.
The whole atmosphere at this hotel is wonderful. Professional staff, clean rooms, genereous breakfast, just like your home in Paris.

I stayed at Edouard VII in april 2007 only for 2 nights. If you are looking for a 4* hotel close to Opera close main shopping galleries Lafayette and Printemps just 10 min by foot, metro station 5 min by foot, a Roissy bus 5 min walking distance. A lot of restaurants on the boulevard des Italians, Louvre - 10 min by foot if you want to visit it.
After reading a lot of reviews I stopped my choice on Edouard VII hotel.
The location is just perfect. The reception is gorgeous. I was met by a guy on reception with a friendly smile, and felt myself at once like at home. Staff is great in this hotel, everyone cares about everything and let you feel yourself very welcome. They have even an umbrella for clients if it's raining (it was when I stayed there).

The room was very nice, not very small like everywhere in Paris center, very clean and comfortable. My room was on a 5th, faced business center building and was very quiet. The bed was comfortable, bathroom is all in marbre, very clean and has all (shampoo, cream, etc). No bathrobe or room shoses.

Breakfast is generous , in a hotel’s restaurant, with a very nice design, great choice of everything, fresh juices, ham, cheese, fuits. Staff speaks english very well and even there’s a russianspeaking staff that can give you all the reccomendations about how is better to spend you day in Paris. Everybody is very helpfull and friendly.

I normally stay at hotels of a higher level than this such as Scribes, or Intercontinental but this hotel took my heart, it’s kind of hotel from where you don’t want to leave. I loved this hotel and will gladly come again.

Thank you very much for making my stay in Paris charming. It was a really great stay in your hotel.

“*Excellent*”

Hotel Edouard VII

I stayed here for two nights with my boyfriend last April and I can honestly say it was perfect. On arrival the check-in was quick and hassle free and our cases were carried up to our room straight away. The hotel on first sight is impressive for a boutique style hotel. The reception is beautifully designed and it is immaculately clean.
Our room was a good size, with separate toilet, large bathroom with ‘his and hers’ sinks and a fantastic bedroom with two Juliet style balconies over looking the street.
The hotel staff were also very helpful in organising taxis and reservations. Although I have previously been to Paris before and therefore knew my way around, I am sure if it is your first trip the hotel staff would be pleased to help, as there is a friendly concierge who speaks very good English.
The location of the hotel is fantastic, we got taxis to most places, simply to save time as we were only there for 3 days but due to the central location they cost next to nothing (however the taxi drivers hardly spoke any English!). I do recommend using the Bateau Bus as it drops you off to all the major sights and only cost 8 Euro for the entire day!
Overall, I can not speak highly enough for this hotel, everyone made my boyfriend and I feel welcome and allowed us to stay in pure luxury and best of all, you had a chocolate on your pillow every morning!
