This is a beautiful Art Deco hotel in a great location. We recently completed our second visit to the hotel in 5 years. The hotel seems to be popular with European business travelers, which means that it’s
not overrun with American tourists. I don’t have anything against American tourists (I am one, after all), but if I wanted to vacation with other Americans, I’d have stayed in the U.S. I don't think we'll
ever stay anywhere else when we visit Paris.
During both of our stays we traveled with extended family, and had at
least 4 rooms or suites between us. We've therefore seen a decent cross section of the available accommodations. The rooms are spacious
by European (and even some U.S.) standards. We noticed no maintenance
issues, and all the rooms were clean and attractive. The hotel's distinctive Art Deco flavor is evident in the room decor. It's not hard to imagine oneself as a wealthy visitor in the 1930's; the hotel's walking-distance proximity to Café de Flore and Deux Magots spurs the imagination.
In-room high speed internet is available, although we didn't use it -- we were on vacation! A well-furnished business center and a fitness
center are also located on the premises. The hotel boasts a very fine
restaurant, and a well-respected brassiere. The restaurant is small, expensive, and very good. The brasserie is larger, less expensive, but also very good. They serve some of the best raw oysters I’ve ever
tasted. Breakfast was included with the room, and is not to be missed
– ever. They have a wonderful assortment of pastries, as well as sausages, scrambled eggs, breads, juices, etc. Every bite is worth savoring.
Many pages could be written about the hotel’s location. Suffice it to
say that it’s in the midst of all that is quintessentially Parisian in shopping, dining, history, and art. There are “don’t miss” experiences on every side street. Explore them all, starting with the
chocolatier next to the hotel. You won’t be disappointed.
Finally, a word about the service. It is impeccable. Because the hotel sees so much business travel, the staff is multilingual. Everyone speaks English fluently, along with probably a half dozen other languages, but as always, it’s courteous to begin your conversation in French, however inadequate your vocabulary. The staff
at this hotel has been unfailingly solicitous, helpful, and willing to do whatever is necessary to make our stay enjoyable. If something isn’t right, they will correct it. If you want a room with a view, they will do their utmost to accommodate you. They are competent, pleasant, and extremely helpful. And if you arrive early in the morning, blinking and disoriented with a slight case of jet lag, they
will gently steer you to breakfast, fortify you with a fine cup of coffee, and cheerfully take care of details such as ensuring your room and bags are united while you charge off to explore the City of Lights.
