“Restfull Inn full of character”

Le Moulin des Templiers

Jan 29, 2007

Our first stop in France after a long drive from Germany was a little hard to find the hotel with only the internet directions as a guide. Driving from Avallon it is about a 10min drive down a dark lane beside the river. Arriving after 10pm our plans for a walk to a local cafe for a late night meal were soon dashed when we found out that it was in a rather secluded location- this in all was more a benefit than a detraction, but I must admit we did have visions of the Bates hotel as we ventured up the dark , gravelled drive. Also our late arrival would have been better announced as we had to wake the owners to access our room.

In the morning any concerns from the night before were quickly dispelled as we took in the lovely sight of the charming converted water mill on the shady banks of the passing stream.
Breakfasts by the river were delightful and dinner that evening in the same location was simple but amongst the best we had in France. The food assisted by a well sampled wine and beer list.

Our room was quite small(tiny actually) but a quick peek in some of the other rooms showed them to be larger. Our neighbours had 2 dogs the size of small horses in their room and they all seemed to sleep comfortably. Although not airconditioned the room was quite cool even during the 40C heatwave we struck.

Although not the Ritz the prices are extremely reasonable and the service was tres friendly especially in the face of our slaughtered guidebook French. A comfortable stay for 2 nights but we were ready for a larger more luxurious room by the time we left.

Had a short stay here in April. The owners were charming and helpful way beyond the call of duty. Monsieur even offered to warm my muddy walking boots in the hearth. The rooms are basic but the food is delicious, in its hearty way, and the setting next to the rushing Cousin river, shaded by overhanging trees, is paradisaical. Highly recommended.

We were glad to find this place. An old mill with a garden next to the fast running Cousin river. The owners were very friendly and M'sieur cooked an excellent meal on our second night. On the first they were fully booked but directed us to another hotel in the short-stroll-away village which was fab. This is just the thing if you're looking for a simple, rural getaway

“Restful Country Inn”

This is a very nice country inn - with a friendly welcome and a nice breakfast. My wife and myself and a traveling companion were traveling to Paris after a week in Taize in early May 2002 and this weas a perfect stop over. Rooms were comfortable, very restful with only the sound of the river to relax us after a long day of travelling and sightseeing. The weather was a little wet but we were able to enjoy the garden area on the river bank.
Very good value for the money - no resturant but there were a number of inns nearby with reaturants and a village within walking distance.

The next morning was spent exploring Vezelay.
