“Great Location & Wonderful Hosts”

Hotel du Chateau

Mar 31, 2008

The rooms are a bit on the smallish side, but that's what you get with an older property. Room size is more that made up for with a wonderful location and some very nice owners. I was made to feel at home immediately and that continued throughout my brief stay. Parking was free this time of the year and was available directly across the street. Although the hotel restaurant was closed the night I stayed there, I was referred to another restaurant called Le Tunnel which was maybe 50 meters up the street. The diner and service were great. Breakfast at the hotel was very complete, tasty and filling.

A trip to the Chateau is a must. It's a very long walk up to the chateau but one can drive there easily.

I liked my brief stay in Beynac and would not hesitate to recommend the Hotel du Chateau.

“Charming hotel, excellent service”

Hotel du Chateau

We stayed at the Hotel du Chateau for two nights this fall. The rooms, as mentioned, were simple and very clean - we had a bathroom with a very nice brand new shower, and others in our group had access to the balcony which was very nice. Breakfast was quite fine, dinner and desserts were marvelous. The owners couldn't have been more accomodating and friendly. For the money we thought it was an excellent value and would recommend it to anyone. By the way, we did also eat at the hotel across the street which was mentioned in the previous review with disappointing results.

“Simple hotel very touristy location”

Hotel du Chateau

3 of 5 stars
Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Jul 22, 2007

Hotel Hotel/Restaurant du chateau is in Beynac in de Perigord on the Dordogne river. We stayed here for one night at 56 Euro for 2 + breakfast 7 Euro pp. (public parking on the street opposite hotel, apparently you only need to pay during the high-season – ask at the hotel)

The hotels common areas as well as the room itself are extremely simple. Nonetheless the room is clean and doesn’t feel unpleasant. The bathroom is very dated but also clean.

The welcome by the owner was extremely friendly and efficient. Really appreciated it!

Unfortunately the hotel’s location is far from ideal: Beynac is one of the main tourist spots of the region and the hotel is located on the street that sees all the traffic coming into town. Cars upon cars and many tour busses. However in the evening the traffic dies down and the street is quiet at night.

Main disadvantage of the hotel, or really Beynac as a whole, seemd to be the lack of good restaurant options: the hotel’s restaurant did not look inviting so we decided to eat at the Logis opposite the hotel and very atypically for a Logis the food was of low quality. Possibly we did the hotel an injustice as the breakfast was of reasonable quality.

The main advantage of the hotel is that staying in Beynac over-night allows you to explore the little village when all other tourist have left. The village is overrun during the day but in the evening it is a charming place with stunning views of the Dordogne from the hilltop.

“Perfect for Perigord/Dordogne touring”

We had one room & our sons another. Simple & clean with modern baths & individual heat/airconditioning. Manager gave us a good deal for breakfast and dinner. Ordinary French breakfast [good price], excellant chef and great dinners and convenient not to have to drive elsewhere. Senior staff all spoke excellent English and junior staff had enough not to be a problem. All were very nice. Chatted with other guests who were equally pleased.

Fab location under the chateau which is light up at night. The room overlooked the lake- nice. Staff v firendly and helpful. Rooms large and airy. The food was amazing - we stayed here for one night and it cost just 100 euro for the night which included dinner b and b. We even slept to 11.30am and they still let us have breakfast- now thats service.
The manager was v hlepful and theres free internet
Only downside the traffic is a bit noisy!
Check out Max the house guard dog.
