“Poor value.”

We stayed here for 3 nights whilst on tour. The rooms are pleasant and quite roomy. The food was OK. The furniture and carpets are cheap and scruffy. We felt quite trapped, as the hotel is a couple of miles from anywhere, on a busy main road, so you can't walk into town. We found the road noise quite wearing, but city dwellers might not notice it!
The bed linen was scratchy and synthetic, and the pillows are the sort you buy for a couple of pounds in the market - really uncomfortable.
Our biggest complaint is that in the guest rooms is a notice saying the tap water must be boiled before drinking! This is simply unacceptable when you are being charged 200 euros for a double room! Come on, Ireland isn't the third world!

“Nice enough”

The Earl of Desmond Hotel

Really nice hotel, bit out of the way but lovely place to stay. Only complaint was bar didn't stay open very late and there was no where near by for late drinking. Food nice enough and rooms clean.

“Well impressed”

Having checked out the previous reviews I was dubious about our choice of hotel, but our doubts proved unfounded. The rooms were comfortable, the meals were presented well, more than ample and very tasty.
The staff - receptionists, bar and dining room staff and domestics - were ready to assist with any queries, and solved our only problem quite quickly and strange efficiently. (Our request for a screwdriver and/or electrian brought a barman with a dinner knife. Luckily we are adaptable too!
The grounds were lovley, and a peaceful retreat after busy days.
There are one or two niggles - a faulty socket, and the toilet flush being on the bath side of the shower screen. But we put the latter down to Irish quirkiness.

“An enjoyable stay - Clean and Comfortable”

After reading the last couple of reviews we weren't looking forward to our stay at the hotel, but fortunately on arrival our fears were unfounded. I can honestly say that we were very impressed with the comfortable ambience of the public rooms. Our bedroom was bright and clean with fresh towels daily. The food was plain and not very interesting, but perfectly adequate for the tariff we were charged.

I would have no hesitation in staying there again and recommending it to friends.
