“much improved”

The Valley Suites

Jan 2, 2008

We have stayed in this hotel twice , the first time in dec 2006 over the new year peroid and it was not so good. with various problems with staff attitude and power cut outs. But we booked this hotel again for 4 couples for two/ three nights on the 30th december .2007 it was super with lovely rooms warm and welcoming,we had a room to the front of the hotel with lovely views of the mountains The food was good and the staff friendly more than willing to help in any way they could. It would be nice to have tea making facilities in the rooms . We would return to this hotel again .

I booked a weekend at this hotel online for my partner my son and myself. It was rated 4 star and everything online looked impressive. We arrived and were informed that food was finishing in 5 mins( 20.30hrs) in the bar we hurried to drop our bags and went straight to the bar as the restaurant was not open. We asked for a menu at the bar and were given same after the waitress checked if the kitchen would still serve us.
We sat and quickly selected our dinner, after 20 mins and many attempts at getting a waitress to take our order we finally got a very harrassed waitresses attention. As to why she was so harrassed I do not know as there were only four other tables eating in the bar.
Our order was taken, the food arrived and was very nice our main course was cleared by a gentleman in a suit I assume can only have been in a management position he was friendly but no offer of dessert or tea/coffee was made by him or any other staff member. We asked for the bill which had only our food and none of our drinks on the receipt this was not because it was complementary I assure you, we informed the staff of same who then added it to the bill.
We found the room clean but for a supposed 4 star was very basic with Argos style furniture. My 5 yr old was unimpressed with no sattelite or dvd or movie channels or option to purchase same. We went for breakfast the first morning there was no table set for us ,there was a large table free, one of the staff politely asked us to give her a minute and she would get us a table. We gave her 15 mins, in the hall with all other guests looking at us. Most tables were already eating so it was not that the staff were so busy ,rather they were not sure what they were doing they passed the empty table that they were supposed to clear for us and occasionally lifted a plate or a cup.
Eventually after getting in once the table was cleared, not reset I add , we went to the buffet and got our breakfast we ordered full Irish breakfasts a tea/coffee and toast. We got the full Irish but no sign of the tea etc. We asked a foreign waitress who wore no name tag for same and she brought them imedietely the tea was fine the toast was stone cold and some pieces were soggy as if someone had spilled something on them so were evidently given to us after being cleared from another table. We then had to ask for cups as there was no sign of them appearing or that anyone of the staff would notice that we had none. There was no sense of organisation what so ever.
We then returned to have our evening meal which was already booked otherwise we would of ate elsewhere. We ordered (and the same staff that served breakfast were there ) we were given our starters about three mins after we ordered and when we informed the waitress the foreign girl again witout a name tag that one of us had ordered something different to this she shrugged and walked away. Another waitress returned took the incorrect starter and gave it to the table next to us who should have been given both starters but left me with mine. So there was two tables with two starters both of which were going cold waiting for the other. The food was again good but the service was awful.
I could go on but I wont as I'm sure everyone has the picture by now as advertised "fun".....no it is not..."entertaining"......... yes but for all the wrong reasons. "Suites"....... they are not unless you call a double and single with a chipboard table and two chairs a suite?!! It is not "sophisticated " there is no" luxury" and it is complete and utter false advertising to call this hotel a 4 star!!!

“Great Room...pity about the food and new staff”

I spent one night in the Valley Suites this weekend. The room was much larger than I expected with the most comfortable bed (which was quite hard to leave in the morning). It was a very clean room. However, the rubber bath mat for the shower was covered in mildew/damp fungus which was a surprise as everything else was spotless.

Negatives:
The staff were very friendly and helpful, but it was obvious that they were new staff. My friends and I were kept waiting while the waitresses/waiters figured out the till.

The bar food was average - very plain and basic, e.g. if you ask for a chicken sandwich then you will receive chicken on bread, not even butter or mayo or relish or any dressing never mind some salad. When I was there a woman sent back a pizza as it was cold and hadn't been cooked properly.

I would stay here again, because the room is great value for money. I would eat elsewhere though.

The hotel is lovely, very modern, rooms are spacious with a nice bathroom. Very clean. Staff are very friendly. The only thing that I didnt like was that there is no residents bar, you can have a drink in the reception area but not allowed into the bar. Other than that cant fault it at all.

“Very enjoyable brak at Killarney Valley hotel”

We have just returned from a wekend break at the Killarney Valley hotel. We have a son of two and a half years and the staff were very firndly towards him. The bedroom was very spacious and very clean with a modern decor and also a lovely bathroom. The restaurant and bar staff were very friendly and the food in both was very good. I will definitley return to stay there again. I would recommend this hotel for a family who want to stay in a quiet hotel. You can avail of facilities in the Gleneage hotel which is a few mile away.
