“all wonderful except for the rooms...”

The Brehon

May 28, 2008

This stay was booked as a part of a "bridal shower"..fancy name for a hen weekend. The exterior of the hotel was beautiful, very impressive...except for the godawful massive carpark behind the hotel! the reception area was lovely, very striking, lovely helpful staff...the corridors were very welcoming..strange thing to say about a hotel but when I get to the next bit it'll make sense! When we got to our room our excitement wa building as we expected somehing really fantastic...and instead got something just..ordinary. Two single beds, cheapish looking wardrobes..the bathroom door kept banging off the bath so much so that it had knocked some of the tiling off the bath. The shower was tiny and piddly. It may sound like I'm nit picking but you do expect more from a 4* hotel especially in a hotel room which is where you do spend most of your time. On the plus side the spa was lovely and the food in the restaurant was fantastic. the bar was very comfortable although saying that it's laid out over three levels is pushing it a bit considering that it was 7 steps down to the lower level and 4 steps up to the higher one!! All in all nice hotel but pity about the room!!

A group af 30 lady golfers stayed in this wonderful hotel for 3 nights. We received first class treatment from the moment we entered the hotel. Food was superb. Attention to detail was a pleasure to experience.I would have no hesitation in returning again

“I miss my cows”

We loved our room overlooking the field with cows across the street. I understand what people mean about the giant carpark though. Once we saw the spa we decided to skip shopping in Killarney, bought bathing suits at the Gleneagle and enjoyed the spa treatments. It was so relaxing after a day of driving. We loved the large room. It was odd though not to have the bar fully stocked in the room, how is that 4 star? We did not eat except for the breakfast which was absolutely delicous. The hotel lobby was beautiful and the whole atmosphere of the hotel in general was just lovely.

“Top class”

The Brehon

5 of 5 stars
Dublin, Ireland
Apr 30, 2008

We had our wedding reception at The Brehon in 2007 (absolutely top class) and returned recently for a weekend stay. The Brehon is classed as a 4-star but it's streets ahead of many 5-star hotels we've stayed in, especially in Ireland. Large comfortable rooms with fantastic views, great service and selection for breakfast and dinner. Spa is perfect for chilling out. All staff are extremely friendly, courteous and professional. We will definitely return as often as possible.

“Should have 5 stars! Puts other 4 star kips in the shade”

The Brehon

Apr 30, 2008

Where do I start on how great this hotel is? My husband had to attend a work seminar one weekend and so took me along!! Everything about this place is sheer class and elegance. From the outside the building itself is rather imposing but once you walk into the huge, airy reception and receive one of the most pleasant welcomes ever, you will feel right at home. The staff cannot do enough to help while at the same time they don't get in the way, don't bother you and as opposed to the practice in a lot of hotels these days, they most certainly don't try and enter your room when you have a privacy sign on the door!

The bedroom, a standard room, was big, roomy and comfortable. the bathroom was an amazing size and the heated floor was a nice touch. I would not mind too much about the absence of tea making facilities in the room, I think it is a deliberate omission, as providing it would mean having to also provide that awful UHT milk which would not fit in with the sheer excellence of everything else there. Food was fab and even the bar lunch I had was lovely and not over priced.

The only thing I would say is that they urge you to re-use your towels which is no problem I don't mind that but it would be good to have a heated towel rail to avoid having to re-use damp towels.

I would defininately go again - every week if I could!

    • Liked — It feels exclusive from the moment you arrive and the staff make you feel like a VIP -no offence either but it was nice to be somewhere relaxing for a change where there were no kids runing around unclaimed!
    • Disliked — Nothing - loved pretty much everything
