My two sisters and I spent three great nights at Cahernane House last week. What a beautiful hotel! Half of the place is a traditional manor house and the other half is very new and modern with both equally lovely. We had a very large, very comfortable room in the newer half but were lucky enough to be given a short tour of some of the older rooms by one of the staff. The cozy parlor on the first floor is a little worn with furniture that could stand some TLC but the warm ambience is welcoming. The staff is even better than the atmosphere, however. On our first day, we went out to find that we had a very flat tire. When I went in to inquire as to how we should proceed, one of the staff, a terrific guy named John, cheerfully volunteered to change it for us! What a great help! The restaurant on the first floor provides an upscale dining experience for dinners and for breakfast (I loved the fresh salmon for breakfast!) and the bar downstairs was a delicious alternative for a more casual dinner. Both Andre and Salard were attentive and fun as bartenders. We also enjoyed Kim in the main restaurant! The grounds of the hotel are gorgeous with a lovely tree-lined drive leading into the property. The location is great as a base for Muckross House as well as for visiting the Dingle Peninsula and the Ring of Kerry. Killarney seems to be "the place to stay" for tourists as the main street is one big hotel after another. Cahernane is different from all the rest because of it's more private location. Much more inviting! A wonderful place to relax while enjoying the beauty of Ireland!
