We stayed in the hotel with our 2 youngest children: 6 years old and 6 months old, at the time; We stayed during the Halloween break, for a full week;
The location of the hotel is NOT walking distance from the centre of town, no way, and I was very disappointed when I found out since I had specifically asked when I made the booking, and I had been told walking to town would be no problem.
When we arrived into the hotel, we had to queue in line just like you do when you are checking in at Dublin airport.... on a busy day; The staff were very nice when they had the time to be nice, they were under too much pressure most of the time, but they were quite obvisouly trained to greet you everytime you came across them -most of the time they were nearly running!
The accomodation was medium standard, we had a "family suite" which was fine, what you would expect I guess for the price, it was not very clean nonetheless and I noted that they clean the rooms in record time!!! hence the mediocre result, but then the hotel is so big the cleaning staff are probably under huge pressure also; But not an excuse!
The restaurant was dreadful: my husband refused categorically to eat in it; Since there was no other restaurants within walking distance we had to take the car every time -which is what we were hoping to avoid since we had the baby; I ate in it a couple of time so that our 6 year old would not miss on activities and it was over priced and very poor;
The bar/lobby: very big but again I coulnt help comparing to an airport!!! You know when all the seats are full beside the boarding gate and you keep waiting and waiting until one become free then you run for it? Same thing; It was also a strange mix of merry people (parents and single people) and children making their way through the tables full of pints and littered with crisps;
I could go on and on, (the fact that it is such a badly designed place for buggies despite being a family hotel) and I will find 1 positive point: our 6 year old had a great great time with all the activities on offer; Oh yes, another one: the beds have quilts (this is one of their selling points, along with the "real mug", how desperate is that)
To conclude: if I won a free week in the hotel....... I would not go; It was a bad choice considering the wonderful choices in Killarney, and never ever again for us;
