“Like Dublin airport a peak time....”

Quality Hotel & Leisure Centre Killarney

Jan 30, 2008

We stayed in the hotel with our 2 youngest children: 6 years old and 6 months old, at the time; We stayed during the Halloween break, for a full week;
The location of the hotel is NOT walking distance from the centre of town, no way, and I was very disappointed when I found out since I had specifically asked when I made the booking, and I had been told walking to town would be no problem.
When we arrived into the hotel, we had to queue in line just like you do when you are checking in at Dublin airport.... on a busy day; The staff were very nice when they had the time to be nice, they were under too much pressure most of the time, but they were quite obvisouly trained to greet you everytime you came across them -most of the time they were nearly running!
The accomodation was medium standard, we had a "family suite" which was fine, what you would expect I guess for the price, it was not very clean nonetheless and I noted that they clean the rooms in record time!!! hence the mediocre result, but then the hotel is so big the cleaning staff are probably under huge pressure also; But not an excuse!
The restaurant was dreadful: my husband refused categorically to eat in it; Since there was no other restaurants within walking distance we had to take the car every time -which is what we were hoping to avoid since we had the baby; I ate in it a couple of time so that our 6 year old would not miss on activities and it was over priced and very poor;
The bar/lobby: very big but again I coulnt help comparing to an airport!!! You know when all the seats are full beside the boarding gate and you keep waiting and waiting until one become free then you run for it? Same thing; It was also a strange mix of merry people (parents and single people) and children making their way through the tables full of pints and littered with crisps;
I could go on and on, (the fact that it is such a badly designed place for buggies despite being a family hotel) and I will find 1 positive point: our 6 year old had a great great time with all the activities on offer; Oh yes, another one: the beds have quilts (this is one of their selling points, along with the "real mug", how desperate is that)

To conclude: if I won a free week in the hotel....... I would not go; It was a bad choice considering the wonderful choices in Killarney, and never ever again for us;

“How many Children”

Quality Hotel & Leisure Centre Killarney

Jan 9, 2008

We booked into the hotel on new years eve. We knew that the hotel would be busy that night but were not prepared for what we saw. The lobby and hall ways were thronged with drunken louts and screaming unpleasant kids. Every where we went in the hotel we were greeted by obnoxious children fighting, using fowl language and running riot.
Thankfully our room was a good size, clean and well away from all the caos. However walking from the room to the car was an experience I would not like to repeat. I understand that this is a family hotel but surely a hotel must think of all its guests and must draw the line when children are sitting in hallways, pushing past you in corridors and playing havoc with the lifts.
Dont get me wrong we have a young child ourselves and understand that it is not possible to watch a child 24/7 however in this situation it was completely out of control. Children were still running riot at four in the morning.
The old section of the hotel is falling apart and the floorboards in the main corridor by the childrens play room have collapsed under the carpet. The walls are filty and when the cleaners are working on the rooms they leave all the dirty plates outside the rooms and around the corridors making it generally unpleasant and unsightly.
Despite all of this I generally do find the staff there helpful and friendly. The hotel would be great if they were stricter and renovated the premises.

“wouldn't stay again”

Quality Hotel & Leisure Centre Killarney

2 of 5 stars
dublin,ireland

A large group of us went to Killarney for three nights and rented two of the holiday homes. They were large and spacious but we did have a couple of problems. In terms of cutlery, plates and cups were in short supply. Each house could have 5 people so there should be enough cutlery in each house for 5 people. Between the two houses we could just about manage. Over half the bulbs were gone in each house. There was no problem getting new bulbs from the reception but it was still a nuisance having to do that. Also the drain in our shower didn't empty quick enough so the shower would leak over the bathroom floor and it also leaked though the floor to the living room below. They sent someone over while we were out but we heard nothing from them so I'm not sure if anything was fixed. We ate once in the lobby but it was the most tasteless sandwich I ever had. My boyfriend enjoyed his steak sandwich though. It is a very kids orientated hotel and the pool during the day was filled with kids. From 8-10pm is adults swim time and they do get the kids out of the pool at 8. I wouldn't stay here again.

“Terrible experience”

Quality Hotel & Leisure Centre Killarney

We stayed in this hotel with a group of 31 from Germany .
There is to say, that the "Hotel" consist out of three parts: one couple of old wings, one couple of new wings and a couple of family homes. All published pictures for my opinion are taken from the new wings.

We, as staying in the old part, experienced propably the worst.
Huge bags of linen lying everywhere, blocking even the emergency-exits for days. Dishes and glasses on the floor in the isles also for days, cut curtains in the room.
The heaters worked perfectly in the isles, but kept completely cold in the rooms.
As we where on half-board, we had dinner on all our three susequent evenings. The hotel managed to serve the same food on all three evenings: Chicken, meat or beef accompanied by the same veggies and mashed potatoes.
An "opinion-card" delivered at checkout out was never answered, despite of a valid adress.

“Fantastic family hotel”

Quality Hotel & Leisure Centre Killarney

Our Family of 2 adults and 2 kids aged 10 and 6 are just back from a fantastic family 4 day break in the Quality Resort Hotel in Killarney.
After reading some of the bad reviews it makes me wonder what type of people are living in our world. This hotel offered great activities for children and their entertainment program was top class. It offers great value for money and a wide variety of food to suit all ages and tastes at very reasonable prices.
We spent a week all inclusive in a 5 star hotel earlier this year in Portugal and our kids asked if we could please return to Quality Resort hotel next year instead of going Foreign.
Staff could not have been any more helpful and friendly, here i will mention Michelle from Kids club who really made 2 friends in my kids, thank you Michelle.
Well done Quality inn Killarney it's a pity more hotels don't take a leaf out of your book and make holidaying in Ireland for families as excellent as you do and us as a nation could pump our well earned cash back into this country for the sake of our childrens future.
