My husband and I arrived at Chelmsford House last Friday evening for a one night stay. The directions were easy to follow and upon our arrival we were greeted by Louise. We filled out our breakfast order immediately,(so plan on knowing what you'll be hungry for the next morning)from about 5-6 choices, and then we were shown to our room #3 at the top of the stairs, to the right. This was by far, the smallest room we stayed in on our entire trip. The bed took up most of the room, and the tiny bathroom at the end had the smallest sink I have ever seen. It looked like a child's sink. The enclosed shower allowed for no movement of the shower-head making it difficult to lather up but the pressure was good and there was plenty of hot water. No shampoo given, and only hand soap in a pump in the shower. There was no phone in the room. We did have a tiny TV up on the wall in the corner. The cupboard built in the wall had extra pillows and blankets. The bed was the firmest we'd slept on, and the pillows were equally as firm. There was one luggage rack but no space to put the other suitcase except right in front of the door once we were in the room for the night. The pine floors are very noisy and every time someone walked down the hall, we could hear the creaking of the floor. The hall did have a long runner-rug but the room did not. The decor was pleasing (blue and yellow)and everything was very clean. The hosts were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was good though somewhat slow and limited. I believe Louise takes the orders the night before so she can prepare one breakfast right after the other as she has no additional help besides her husband. This pre-ordering makes it simpler for her but a few guests grumbled because they weren't in the mood for what they'd ordered the previous night. All-in-all, clean and nicely situated to downtown Killarney, about a 3 minute drive to the downtown car park. Walking would be all up hill on the journey back from town. We would not stay here again if other options were available, but if not, we'd make do. Rate was 30 euro per person.
