This was a really disappointing hotel. The hotel has a quite odd architecture, seems it was "growing" in all kind of niches and holes over the time and I ended up in a room with no windws, just a venting hole in the roof. The bathroom was tiny and the board holding the towels and the toiletpaper hung above the toilet and fell down one night, placing the fresh towels and the toilet paper neatly in the bowl leaving it all wet. I called the roomservice to explain that I want new towels and showed him the damage and he just laughed and apologized. Well at least he got me a new set of towels.
During the time in Dublin we fould more B&B hotels that were less expensive, were better equipped and better located so that this stay was certainly my first and last stay there.
To be fair though, breakfast ("full irish") was good, guess that's the best I can say about this hotel.

“Where was the full Irish?”

We stayed at the Charles Stewart for one night at the beginning of June 2007. It was easy to find and fast check in. We had booked a family room as it was the same price as a double which wasnt available when we wanted to stay, and the room was huge with high ceilings, on the ground floor. A nice ensuite bathroom, the only problem was the sink, someone thought it would be a good idea to put a soap dispenser over it but it was so big and the sink so small that it was very difficult to wash and we ended up with water all over the floor. The bed was comfy and we had a good nights sleep apart from the fact that the room was on the way to the breakfast room and I was woken up at 6.30 in the morning by two people discussing the breakfast outside the room. Talking of the breakfast, when I booked, capital letters informed me that the price included a full Irish breakfast. When it arrived it consisted of two shrivelled up sausages, a piece of bacon, a tomato, a fried egg and two slices of toast. Not really what we were expecting. Overall a very pleasant stay.

“Excellent budget accommodation”

Stayed here for a couple of nights on 28th and 29th May and we were more than pleased with the accommodation.
I had booked their 'Spring Madness' offer (£87 for 2 nights for 2 people!) so wasn't expecting luxury. What we got was good budget accommodation, right in the centre of Dublin, including a decent breakfast.
The room was basic but very clean and included tea/coffee making facilities, an iron and ironing board, ensuite bathroom with toilet, sink and good power shower (quite tight for space in bathroom but clean and fresh towels provided daily, toiletries etc too).
Heating was provided via a Dimplex radiator which warmed up the room in minutes but could be turned off if it got a bit too cosy.
Breakfast was served in the basement between 7am and 10 am and was more than ample with choice of cereals, fruit segments, coffee and tea and orange juice and then a choice of cooked breakfasts. I had the Full Irish (egg, bacon, sausages, tomato) and my vegetarian husband had scrambled eggs and tomato - both came with a pile of toast, which we finished off with the little pots of jam provided.
The staff were all really nice and helpful and friendly and willing to chat, especially the Irish chap who was on the desk at night times and recommended things to do and places to go. They all spoke perfect English!
The location is ideal, hop off the airport bus and walk up the road and you're there - walk down and you're off to Grafton Street, Temple Bar etc.
There's so much to do in Dublin that you're not going to be sitting around in your room for long, so book yourself a cheapie like this and then go and enjoy the sights and the Guinness!

“reaaly naff & Freezing”

Basic is too strong a word for this hotel you could pay an extra £20 and stay somewhere decent. It was so cold we slept in our clothes and the staff who barely speak english claim to have no control over the heating. Our room was in the basement and felt like a dungeon. Shocked to see all the good reviews as I can't find one redeeming feature about this place, we booked for 3 nights and moved on after one - truly the pits.

“A fantastic taste of History”

The reason there is not elevator in the Charles Stewart is because it is a historic building, certain things cannot be added or changed, such as the architectural ceilings, the original wooden flooring and the general layout of the building. This is a remarkably historic building, the birthplace of a noted Irish Character the famous Irish author Oliver St. John Gogarty. This B&B is good value for its money, given its location and convienience to dublin city center
