“Shanty Hotel in good location!”

Very unpleasant stay.

We were given a basement room and told that there were no others available. We did not really believe this as it was a Tuesday night but did not complain.

The room was very very stuffy and warm. When we eventually managed to open the window, we felt unsafe as it left us open to the street at the front of the hotel so we closed it while sleeping.

In the morning we opened it again and were really annoyed to be disturbed by deliveries and hotel staff smoking and chatting directly
outside the window. Tobacco smoke from staff also came into our room,
not nice at all.

The bathroom was very small and not very clean. We decided not use the shower as it was very dirty looking.

We did not expect much from this hotel, we only booked it for one night in the city but we were still dissappointed. It was very poor for €108. We were very glad we were not staying for more than one night.

The breakfast was fine.

I especially would not recommend this hotel for summer months due to noise and a lack of ventilation.

“Lovley hotel in Dublin”

Longfields Hotel

We visited Dublin just 5 days ago and choosed to stay in Longfields hotel as the hotel was recommended by the Spanish newspaper El Pais. In fact this was the only hotel recommendation in article about Dublin.
The hotel was lovley. We did not have any hassle to make the booking. We were greeted very warmly and received from reception the general managers welcome letter and city map.
Rooms are not big but they are clean and comfortable.
We got the room which had just been renovated. The staff is very helpful and always there for you.
Breakfast served was something we never had in any other hotel. You can mix both buffet and cooked breakfast. Even it was busy weekend everything was organised and run smoothly. I have read other reviews here and I think that many of them dont actually make justice to this hotel.
We had perfect weekend and will always come back to this hotel when in ireland

“Very unethical. Be wary about making reservations here”

Our flight from the US was cancelled and we promptly let the management know we could not use our reservations for two rooms. This enabled the hotel to rent our rooms and therefore the hotel did not lose out on our cancellation. They still charged us the full fee! They got two nights of fees for each room!! This is unethical and in the U.S. illegal.
Stay away from hotels such as this one with a ridiculous 48 hour cancellation policy especially since one doesn't have complete control over transportation.

Management Response

I would like to say to the guests, that in time making the booking the cancellation policy is always clearly stated on the booking confirmation form.
The hotel does charge the late cancellation fee if it is not according to the cancellation policy stated on the confirmation. In the event of that you have booked 3 nights stay and hotel would not be able to resell the rooms for the 3 nights we do have right to charge the cancellation fee. Most of the hotels have 24-48 hour cancellation policy.
This booking was cancelled less than 10 hours notice.
And hotel has not charged any full amount.
The hotel lost out 2 rooms for one ogf the nights and was not able to re sell it and as policy is stating the charge is 1 night stay. And that what hotel did charge those guests.
With full respect, the hotel has not broken any laws or done anything illegal.

Found this hotel on the visitdublin.com site and chose it for price in relation to standard and location. I like a hotel with a bit of charm and if I'm staying in Dublin I want a proper Georgian hotel. Was not dissappointed. Sure you can find more luxury and even better location for 2 or 3 times the price we paid, but for the price (paid about 100 Euro with breakfast for 2) and location this was better than expected and more than adequate for our needs - a romantic weekend away on a budget.

We had a room on the first floor, quiet, comfortable large bed (sheet and blanket - not duvet!), pleasant oldy-worldy decoration and furniture, not new but acceptable, not large but enough to move about. Window in room couldn't be opened, but when we turned down the radiator the temperature and ventilation was comfortable (OK in January - but might be a problem in summer). Adequate small bathroom with bath and plenty of hot water.

The staff were very friendly and helpfull, gave us good directions on the phone, helped with the bags, gave plenty of good information and price at checkout was as expected. Only negative here was no late checkout. No parking with hotel, but night porter will feed a meter for you in the morning. Breakfast is great - full Irish plus good choice from the buffet - kept us going all day.

The hotel is just a short walk from shops, bars and restaurants in Merrion Row and easy walk of the town centre. there is also a good bus service right into O'Connell Street.

We would definitely stay here again at the price - good value. I couldn't find better at this price in a good area so close to the city.

“Very nice hotel!”

I visited this hotel in January in a weekend together with my 16 year old son. The hotel was a pleasant surprise, not to large but very nice and quiet room, nice atmosphere, very helpful and friendly staff. The location was excellent, walking distance to almost all major attractions. Breakfast was very good and tasty. Only the bathroom was small, but clean and sufficient.
I would certainly go there next time and recommend it to friends.
