“The Best of Them All!”

Mount Royd Country Home

When we mentioned we were going to Derry next, Mr. McGinty, the owner of Woolen Things in Donegal, recommended this B&B to us. I am so glad we took his recommendation. This B&B has won awards and it's easy to understand why. The owner, Josephine Martin, offered us tea and cakes as soon as we arrived and served us in the sitting room. She provided some good tips on obtaining British pounds the next day, where to park and where to get the town tour bus. We had a king size bed (what we call a Queen size bed in the USA), that had two gorgeous comforters, lovely sheets, and even a decorative canopy. It was luxurious. Breakfast was sumptious with at least 8 different bowls of fruit including fresh berries and a bowl of kiwis and mangos. The food was thoughtfully prepared and presented and delicious. Even the table settings were coordinated with the placemats and napkins and there were fresh flowers on the tables. The Mount Royd is easy driving to the Northern Ireland city of Derry, the Bushmill's Distrillery, the Giants Causeway, and the rope bridge. Josephine has paid attention to every detail and definitely deserves the awards she has won. Her B&B is absolutely lovely.

“Better than the Ritz”

Lovely B&B just outside of Derry. Warm and inviting bedrooms with personal touches such as a heated towel rack, plush rugs, candies, special toiletries, along with an exceptionally comfortable bed. Josephine Martin was not only very helpful with local details but an exceptional host as well. Although one expects excellence from the Ritz Carlton, their hotel in Powers Court could learn one or two things from Mrs. Martin when it comes to breakfast. All in all an excellent choice.

“Outstanding”

Three friends (including two from the USA) and I stayed at the Mount Royd for one night while on a tour of Derry and Inishowen. It was a memorable experience - the best guest house / B&B experience we have ever had. Mount Royd is a beautiful subsatantial house. The very comfortable en-suite bedrooms are beautifully decorated and overlook attractive gardens and/or patio areas with a small flock of Jacob sheep at the back. Few hotels could compete with the quality and variety of the breakfasts. The hosts are very welcoming and helpful in an unobtrusive way. There are many "extras" - a cup of tea on arrival, access to a comfortable sitting room that incudes a lot of guides and books of local interest and access to a water cooler in the dining room. In short, an outstanding guest house and an ideal base for visiting Inishowen and Derry.

sent my parents to mount royd for my mother's birthday - they were well impressed, with the landlady been the best one they have seen since and before.
If about Derry or north Donegal again, would def return!
Food was expectional and views were breathtaking!

“Best breakfast I've had in a B&B”

Mount Royd Country Home

Stayed three nights at this lovely B&B 6 miles outside Derry (just into Donegal, Ireland). The house is in a quiet location, with views to fields from all rooms.

We were welcomed with tea and cakes. We had a nice en-suite room with a very comforatable bed. Highlight of each day was the breakfast, with a huge spread of fruit and cereal followed by a choice of smoked salmon, full Irish, omlette or others, fresh baked soda bread, scones, banana bread and toast to finish. Quite remarkable.
