“Fun and value”

Queens Hotel

We stayed at the Queens the second week of February 2006. The rate included breakfast which was good, and 1 evenings dinner, either in their restaurant or in Cruises, a pub next door. It is not the Ritz Carlton but for the price a good value.

First the problems
The rooms faced the street and at quitting time for the bars it was noisy. This will be a problem in any hotel located in a city center anywhere in Ireland.
This was about 2AM. The cure for this is either be part of the noise or party and sleep well.

Parking
Ask for a voucher to place on your dashboard to allow free parking from 9 - 12 in the public lot. The hotel has no parking. They only allow 3 hours of parking so you have to feed the meter, I would move and repark, as the meter person seemed very efficient. This should really be a problem on your first day when you want to sleep. Same problem with all center city hotels though.

The Good Stuff
The staff was helpful and polite
The food at Cruises was good and the service was wonderful. Great music, peat fires, good atmosphere. One of the best places for this and I have been to Ireland a couple of dozen times.
Central in Ennis for shopping, pub hopping
Bathrooms were good, plenty of towels. Your shampoo will be on the wall in a dispenser of the shower which was clean and had plenty of hot water.
I Have stayed at the "better hotels" in Ennis. They are nice but cost at least 100 USD more a night for pretty much the same thing.

I would stay on my next trip.

“Mighty Crack”

Touring around Ireland and visited Ennis on the 21st Jan 06. Wanted to stay central so checked into the Queens Hotel. The lovely receptionist informed us about the nightclub on the premises. What Irish Craic we had!. First we ate steak in Cruises Bar. For the quantity, the price was very reasonable. The Bar maid informed us of Traditional Irish Music in the bar that evening. We of course returned and enjoyed it tremendously. We then ventured for the nightclub, which was great fun. The Queens hotel is a very relaxed hotel, where customers can enjoy the Irish Tradition, Irish Cuisine, Craic agus Ceol. Highly Recommended.

“Be warned”

WARNING,Do not stay at this hotel.
I stayed at the Queens hotel last year, what a disaster. The room was stale, damp and dirty, asked to be changed but the hotel was full, full? how can a dump like this be full. The shower did not work just as well for there was no hot water. Got into bed and noticed the ceiling was coming down.
Eventually getting to sleep and there is pandemonium outside, actual fighting and girls screaming, the time now is 02.45 am. I just laid there for ages listening to half of Ireland do battle.
Breakfast? forget it, there was no staff, they must have been at the fight, I mean the disco with all the others last night.
Please read the other reviews it really is that bad.

“Disappointed with the experience”

Queens Hotel

This is supposedly a 3 star Hotel but did not deserve this rating when I stayed there
Bar, food and restaurant all good and good service
Room however: hole in quilt cover, stained blankets, marks ++ on walls and wallpaper removed. Main complaint - ceiling in bathroom had mould stains and as a result room smelt of damp.
This was my second room at the Hotel as moved from first which was directly above a late night bar
Very disappointed - no way was this a 3 star Hotel judging by the room
Have sent comments to the Hotel and waited a few weeks for no reply
Worth others knowing this

“Do not stay here!!!”

Queens Hotel

We needed to stay in Ennis for one night and this was the only hotel in the town available ...(I wonder why????)

First room had large damp black areas on the walls, smelt of must and had the smallest window I had ever seen. I asked to be changed and I was put into a room which appeared okay. As the evening went on, it began to get very cold and I telephoned down to enquire about the heating as the radiators were freezing. I was told that someone would be up immediately. No one came.
I phoned again and was told that the heating was gone throughout the hotel and they were waiting for a plummer. Another hour passed and I went out to the corridor and the radiators there were very hot. So, I phoned again and a very obnoxious receptionist told me that the heating was now fixed. NOT IN MY ROOM!!!
I decided to get into bed to keep warm but the sheets were cold and damp.
My boyfriend arrived to the hotel at this stage and was told there was no hot water for a shower and that they couldnot guarantee hot water in the morning!!
The manager of the hotel arrived to the room with a screw driver to "fix" the heating, and then told us that he had an electric heater we could borrow!! Good God!
We checked out immediately and stayed in a hotel outside of town.
Cannot believe that there are still hotels like this in the country.
Absolutely vile!
