“relaxing stay”

Macdonald Forest Hills Hotel & Resort

My girlfriend and i stayed at the Macdonald for 2 nights last week and were extremely impressed with the hotel itself and more so the location. We took advantage of the dinner and b&b deal currently available and dined in the restaurant 2 nights running. Leisure facilities are decent although some of the machines in the gym could do with updating, we played badminton both days which was an unexpected plus. There is a sailing centre on the loch which has toppers, kayaks etc. available, we decided to hire the mountain bikes and cycle round the loch on the trails which was quite tiring but worth it for the stunning scenery. Service in the resaurant is a little slow although we werent in a rush so no big deal. 2 things I would suggest as improvements is to get rid of the dreaded muzak in the bar and dining area, frankly there is only so much Kenny G one can take and secondly ensure the wake up call procedures are tightened up as we were awoken one day unexpectedly and unrequested at 7am!! Overall a thoroughly positive experience and a hotel that was relaxing and great value for money. Just one more thing when u book request a loch view room as the views are worth it (room 202 was perfect)

“Fantastic location, average accomodation”

Stayed here for 1 night in February. The location of the hotel was fantastic, on the edge of Loch Ard.

The hotel room was large, but the furniture had seen better days, and was dated. The view from the room was excellent, but the windows was dirty and paint was peeling.

I think the whole hotel could do with a make over, as the interior was a little dated.

I did like the swimming pool and sauna area.

Service in the restaurant was slow but food was nice.

First time at this Hotel. Fantastic location, fantastic hotel. Booked
this hotel at the same time as booking Loch Rannoch hotel in the same
chain. Booked a executive room with a view over the gardens looking onto the loch. for three days cost £340 for dinner, bed and breakfast. The chef at this hotel produces food which is a joy to eat. Three course meals with coffee and chocolates to follow fantastic. I especially enjoyed the haggis, poached egg, mushroom with whiskey and pepper sauce a dish which conjured up the taste of Scotland. The service from the many eastern European staff was excellent, friendly eager to please and very warm. Each evening before dinner you wait in the lounge before dinner take a drink and you will be presented with tasty morsels of tit bits smoked nuts, olives, and home made crisps a discussion in it self of what they are made of. I have never seen glasses on a table so sparkling clean they illuminated a blue tinge. The view from the restaurant in the conservatory is that of the gardens and loch beyond magical. The leisure facilities consisted of a swimming pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, snooker tables, bowls, table tennis, gym with instruction on how to use the equipment clearly displayed. We went kayaking on the loch and fishing the staff at the outdoor center very friendly and when the weather turned wet when we had only been in the kayaks for 1/2 hour rather than a hour we paid for were even offered the chance to come back later to continue with our outing on the lake a very rare experience. The area is surrounded by forest with walks within them. Mountains rise from the landscape the weather when we were there was cloudy, wet and moody contribute to stunning scenery and the mysteries that surround the area. The hotel itself is not far from the nearest village. I would recommend this Hotel for anyone
families or like ourselves for couples I think praise should be given
to the Manger who runs this Hotel he clearly expects high standards from his staff and he himself exudes these ever watchful when our coffee failed to turn up after dinner in the lounge due to nothing more than the staff being very busy he sorted it out and apologized.
He interacts with all resident's showing interest in were people are
from, telling stories of the near new year disaster when the power went off everyone staff and guest are treated with a high level of customer care, from this Manager excellent. We will defendley be returning next year. I hope the exceptionally high standards are still in place and of course the chef.

Stunning location and excellent facilities. A good deal on Laterooms (£90 prpn BnB) meant that our stay was good value. Slightly let down by breakfast - a 4 star hotel should serve decaf coffee and offer vegetarian options, and service was very slow.

“A lovely break”

A nice hotel. The outside looked a little tired from thge outside and some of the decor (tartan carpets in hallways) was not amazing. However, this was compensated for by 1) stuning views from the bedroom over the loch. 2) Fantastic food. We booked dinner as part of our stay and had a fantastic four course meal overlooking the loch. The breakfast was also of a very high standard. 3) Service was very good and we were well looked after by the staff. 4) the size of our double room was fantastic and the bathroom was of a high standard.

Close to Glasgow and stirling but still with a remote and away from it feel. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
