“shocking”

Craig Tara

Oct 9, 2008

We stayed at this caravan site for a mid week break with our 1 year old son.

when we arrived on the monday at 230pm. we got given our information pack but never got told about anything that was happening. when we got to our prestige caravan there was rubbish bags that had been left outside near a bin (obviously the cleaners) but being next to a beach (or lack of it) there were seagulls that had ripped open the bags and therefore there were dirty nappys and baby wipes lying outside our caravan. we went to reception and told them about it and they said that they would get someone to clean it asap. it finally got cleaned up the next day.

the prestige caravan was meant to have heatng in all the rooms that is why we chose a prestige. after a night up all night with the baby cos of the cold we went and complained about the lack of heating. they said they would send someone to have a look at it and also get a portable heater given to us to use. the heater finally came at night time.

everything opens at 10am for holiday people to do so we went to the swimming pool and we were the first family there. as we went into the family changing area we were appalled by what we saw. the nappie bins were overflowing with dirty nappies and the cubicle that we went into had use sanitary items left on the floor. when we left we complained to the person on reception and she just shrugged it off with no apology. the pool was freezing so couldnt stay in or very long. the slides were unsuitable for our son and the splash zone was to rough for him as well.

we went for an evening meal in the mash and barrel bar and again the clenliness of the place was disgusting. there was food that had been left on the tables for ages and dirty glasses that hadnt been collected. the floor was covered in dust and there were dead flys and wasps on the window ledges. one good thing is that the food actuallly was good but was propbably bought in cos the gravy tasted like bisto.

the evening entaertainment was brilliant so imm not going to complain about that. the staff were friendly and were really good with kids of all ages.

we gave tcraig tara the benefit of doubt that it would get better but unfortunatly it never lived up to its standard.

last of all the website said that it catered for all ages i think that it need sto be changed cos there werent any swing for my son to use let alone anything else. there was a soft play area in the reception but that was always busy and you never know when they lasy cleaned it

“Shambles!”

Don't go to Craig Tara if you want decent accommodation. We arrived at 4pm, allocated a chalet upstairs, no use with 4 month old baby! Were allocated another chalet downstairs, absolutely disgusting, room stunk of damp and mould, definately no use for us and the baby. Room also had not been cleaned, floor a mess, beds not made, no towels or toilet paper. Allocated a third room, room had not been cleaned, beds not changed, wet towels in the bathroom and bags of rubbish in cupboards - stank of urine or had been lying for ages. Also iron marks on the floor on the carpet! Was now 8pm and were not going to move again. Cleaners came round at 9.30pm to clean the room and finally settled at 10pm! Can only thank those two ladies who were so nice under obvious pressure from guests complaining to them. Park ok but not much to do. They like to leave the dirty linen outside on the ground to be picked up but can be next day so looks very unsightly. Also water went off on Sunday night so venues were closed down apart from one which was to close due to the ladies toilet running out of water but was kept open. Have to say this place needs a real boot into this century as the cleanlieness of the chalets must not be taking place (was told at reception that the rooms must have been left off the list!). Many other people were complaining as well and if you are thinking of going here, think twice until they get their act together.

“Craig Tara......give it facelift will ya!!!!”

Were were not expecting much from the reviews but it wasnt as bad for us as some other unfortunate travellers. The caravan was transported from 1983. It was clean but a bit wiffy and very basic (this after a upgrade!!!).
The site is basically shabby with attempts to "patch up" areas but the main issue is the accomodation. We witnessed loads of people complaining about the sheds, sorry chalets. Ive never seen a nice chalet anywhere so take my advice and stick to caravans at these places.
The swimming pools were the best weve seen at any haven. There are 3 main pools which are connected by mini slides. The slides are ace and you can adjust the water fountains/sprays yourself (watch out for the huge bucket water drop!!!) The entertainment was also better than average but the timetable we were given didnt match what we actually saw!!
There is not alot to do in ayr but it is nice. Its just a long weekend kind of place.
So all in all if you dont pay alot for craig tara its ok. If though you get caught up in havens hype you will be disappointed.

“do not book a chalet !!!!”

Craig Tara

Aug 27, 2008

this holiday was so disappointing. the "chalet" was a run down block of a biulding and we were moved three times. chalet no 1 had holes in the walls, the smell was disgusting, carpets filthy, curtains not hanging correctly and electrical lights were a haelth and safety hazard. chalet no2 stunk of urine, carpets again filthy, needs knocking down. woke up early hours of the morning to find brown urine coming from under the toilet, reported it the next day. waited till half four and still noone came. with two young children not very good !! insisted to be moved. finally they give us keys to an apartment. front door had been boarded up !!!! started to move our belongings in and somoeone else had been given the keys to it. in the end we has a two birth standard caravan. clean !!! place dirty... food ok...never ever go again

“World's Largest Toilet ?”

Boy, have I got a holiday for you...

Fun...romance...action...adventure...laughter...tears...chips and curry sauce...a bag o'crisps...brightly coloured scrunchies...teflon tracksuits...hooded tops...cheap gold with one's name on...oversized berghaus jackets... socks over trackies...sweeties..mindless violence and vomit.

Ladies and gentlemen I give you the beauty and splendour blended together that is Craig Tara in Ayr. An unforgettable family holiday experience. ...

The good people at Haven have created what may be the largest toilet in the world. At 2,100 square feet, the attractive parkland contains more than 1,000 toilets resembling caravans. Very clever indeed.

Most of the staff wear baseball caps to hide their frontal lobotomy scars and and have all the enthusiasm of a Tesco bag. Several more advanced staff members have been known to walk reliably on two legs.

On a more positive note The FunStars are full of imagination and there's always something everyone can join in with. Children need extra entertainment on holiday, and the FunStars have everything for the kiddie winkles.

It's just that I couldn't help but wonder when they would eventually malfunction like Yul Brynner in Westworld and reap havoc and terror on unsuspecting holiday makers.

Go if you like it's fun.
