We experienced a warm, friendly, relaxing atmosphere at this hotel. The food was excellent - freshly cooked - the home baking was delicious. They can cater for all ages and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The location was perfect - at the head of the Great Glen with panoramic views of the Nevis Range. We certainly recommend a visit here!

Stayed for 2 nights at the Old Pines with our 4 yr old son. Current owners, the Dalleys, very welcoming. Hotel has a comfortable, relaxed feel, quickly felt at home, peaceful and tranquil.

Our room was fairly compact, there was space for a fold-down bed for our son. Well-equipped, great power shower in stylish en-suite, DVD player in room [good selection of DVDs including kids']. Beds very comfortable, we all slept soundly.

Cuisine of a uniformly high standard from complimentary afternoon tea with home-baked scones & cake, children's tea, pre-dinner canapes, delicious 4 course dinner through to excellent breakfast including home-made raspberry or apple muffins.

Fairly child-friendly, extensive grounds, outdoor play area, lot of children's books & puzzles if wet weather.

We booked a one-night stay at The Pines because of their good recommendation on TripAdvisor. The hotel is small and friendly - probably a dozen rooms. Our room was a family room (though just 2 of us) with bunk beds included! It was spacious for 2, very clean, and decorated in country style. Shower was good too! The highlight of a stay is definitely the food. Dinner was a 4 course meal and the food was excellent - local produce and organic in some cases. The breakfast was also delicious! The staff here are extremely professional and very friendly. I would recommend this hotel for the good food and the great staff. Note though that the hotel is about 10 minutes drive out of Fort William.

I can't really agree with the previous reviews. I stayed at the Old Pines in February 2003 and found it fairly average. The food is pretty good but on Sunday night only supper is served which was no way up to the standard I would expect for the price. The rooms are small and as a previous reviewer mentioned the water pressure is not good but they are nicely appointed. You should also be aware that you will probably be expected to share your dinner table with other guests. This is probably a bonus to some but my husband and I felt that we were scratching around for small talk all evening as we had absolutely nothing in common with our fellow guests. I must say, I didn't find Bill and Sukie particularly friendly but I understand they've moved on now so maybe the new owners have brought more charm to the place.

We spent 2 days at the Old Pines in September 2004 and had a very good stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. We especially enjoyed the pre- and post- dinner drinks in the lounge where we had an opportunity to chat with the other guests. The rooms had a cabin feel. They were nice and included a DVD player (the hotel had a good collection of DVDs you could borrow). The only complaint we had, which we shared with some other guests, was that the water pressure and temperature was somewhat variable. I'd definitely recommend this hotel as a good place to stay in the area.
