“Every room has a scenic view of the M8 Motorway”

Glasgow Marriott Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Philadelphia, PA
Aug 26, 2007

I have stayed at the Glasgow Marriott several times since 2000 and it remains a hallmark of that unique Marriott brand of consistency. It is a chain hotel through and through--with the typical Marriott bars and restaurants and amenities. The staff is always friendly and there are some "old-timers" who have an encyclopedic knowledge of Glasgow. The rooms are small but extremely comfortable, again with the standard Marriott beds and well appointed bathrooms. They are always spotlessly clean. The Leisure Club (ie gym) has a good array of workout equipment, fitness classes, and an indoor pool. The hotel is very accessible as it is perched right next to the M8 motorway, which can be seen from every room, hence my tongue-in-cheek comment. It is about a 15 minute walk to central Glasgow and the main shopping areas. The last time I stayed at the hotel the service in the Mediterraneo restaurant was a bit spotty, buffet items were not replenished and the waitstaff was nowhere to be found. But asides from that the hotel always provides a clean, comfortable, consistent experience not far from the heart of Glasgow.

“Best Nights Sleep Everh!”

Glasgow Marriott Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Co Durham, England
Aug 16, 2007

Stayed at the Marriott for one night on 11th August. The entire place was lovely, very clean and tidy. Reception very helpful. Our room was huge with 2 double beds. Bathroom was gleaming - plenty of free toiletries etc. There was a hairdryer, iron, ironing board, tea, coffee, biscuits etc in our room. The mini bar was fully stocked - though very pricey.

The hotel bar was really nice, even when we rolled home at 2am they still had a smile for us.

We took breakfast in the restaurant and there was everything you could imagine to chose from.

Would definitely recommend it.

P.S. Taxi's in Glasgow are REALLY cheap which is a refreshing change!

“Dreadful don't bother just cross the road”

Glasgow Marriott Hotel

I am currently staying in the hotel for work but if you are reading this don't bother. I have been working in Glasgow for two months and can recommend something far far better and cheaper and more importantly - cleaner. This is my first stay in this Marriott and my last.

As a Marriott the minimum you expect is a high standard so your expectations are high before you enter the door. You don't get it with this one and I have stayed in plenty. The room I had was small it over looks the motorway so isn't very quiet, but adequate. A cheap nasty iron isn't a good sign.

The leisure club is in an dreadful state, the staff don't care, the pool is in bits and looks and feels dirty, I wont say what the steam room smelt of. I always book a hotel with these facilities but this was just a huge disappointment.

The restaurant is dead in the evening becuase the meals just aren't worth it so people just eat in the bar area

In the mornings I had to wait ages to be seated for breakfast it just shouldn't happen in a hotel this size, the room in the restaurant just isn't adequate but obviously been based upon the lack of attendance in the evening. To have breakfast nearly sitting on someone else's lap was just intrusive

I would suggest very strongly you book the Menzies, just across the road. My first impression from the outside was not that good but trust me just walk inside. Excellent Bar, Restaurant, Pool, Food, Rooms. No reason not to.

We identified the Marriott as the place we wanted to stay to begin and end a self arranged 18 person group visit to Scotland. And we could not have been happier. Great rooms, beds, food, bar and breakfast. And only 5 minutes walk to the main area of town. Highly recommend his one.

Comfortable rooms, very good bed and decent buffet breakfast make this a good place to stay on business. You could also open the windows (which is an essential for me nowadays), although only by a crack.

Downsides are that it is very close to the motorway (so you don't want to open the window while you're in the room because of the noise and the air quality), and not in a particularly nice part of town. I wasn't always completely comfortable walking into the town centre (10-15 minutes), but no more so than in most cities.
