Castlemount B&B is located right across the St Andrews Castle, which meant our rooms had excellent views. The B&B is well-maintained and the rooms were spacious and have a very personal touch to them. Breakfast was marvelous (although I probably put on a few pounds from those mushrooms dripping with butter!) and the view from the dining room spectacular.
The B&B is within minutes from the town center but it is definitely a good walk away from the Old Course. It took us about 20 minutes walk in the cold to get to the 18th hole but the neighborhood is really beautiful.
The only qualms I had was with their reservation system and how Linda managed the situation. I confirmed via email that I had to cancel one night of our stay and Jerry acknowledged this change. However, Linda did not get the message and thus, was rather unpleased with us.
Although I had the email confirmation with me, I felt rather awkward during our stay as Linda mentioned nothing about the extra night. She brought it up during checkout in a condescending manner (I felt like I was being lectured!) and said that she will overlook the matter although according to her, we did not cancel the night's stay properly.
I could have just presented my printed email copy but couldn't really be bothered as I think she could have been more pleasant on the matter. I'm sure if she really checks her email or runs it by her husband, she would have known that we were right. Even so, aren't customers always right?
If she had already decided to not charge us for the extra night, why make it more unpleasant for us to make it sound like she was doing us a huge favor?
There are many other closer hotels around that area, so I don't think I would be returning to this one. Although the views were great, everything else can be easily replicated (breakfast, rooms etc) by another B&B with even better service.
