“Horrific”

Drumoig Lodge Hotel

Fife, Scotland
May 16, 2007

We were meant to stay here for New Year. We were really looking forward to our stay as we had spent our wedding night here 2 years ago.
It was terrible from the start. We waited ages at reception, ringing the bell several times, even asking a cleaner for help before a very rude receptionist turned up. We checked in and then had to walk outside in the pouring rain to our room in the lodge - no help was offered with luggage.
We entered the room, on the top floor of one of the lodges. It was dark and smelt really musty. And it was tiny - small for one person never mind a couple. You could not stand in most of the room due to the sloping ceilings.
And it was FILTHY. FILTHY is not a stong enough word:
huge cobwebs
stained blanket on bed
hole in bottom bed sheet
hairs in bath and sink
stains on toilet seat and bowl
coffee stains on wall
bird poo on INSIDE of window
dirty kettle and cups
layers of dust on every surface
light bulbs did not work/were missing
no heating
and the list goes on and on...
We called reception and were told someone would come to look at the room. Eventually the rude receptionist turned up, took a quick glance and left. We had to call gain and ask for the manager. We were told we would have to come to reception to see him!! After much discussion he came to the room and saw for himself the state it was in. He then showed us another room in the lodge, but it was just as bad. He asked us to bear with him and he left. He then called and asked us to meet him at another lodge - he had had a room cleaned for us to look at. When we got there the cleaner was standing in the door looking so pleased with herself. And to be fair it was better than the other rooms. It was bigger too. It was a twin rather than a double but we would have coped for one night. Then my husband went to look out of the window. Crusty bird mess on the inside!! This was blamed on previous guests opening the window??!! Why had it not been cleaned?
The manager then told us he had no other rooms and all we could do was check out and go home or find someplace else to stay. At 4pm on New Years Eve??
To be fair on checking out the manager did explain that he had just bought the hotel and it had been closed for 3 months and he had just opened it again. But why were the rooms not checked and cleaned? Pretty basic stuff.
He did offer to have the room cleaned again, but by that point we were really not wanting to stay. If the rooms were like that what would the kitchen be like? Standards were not good.
It was such a shame as we were so looking forward to our stay. From reading reviews it looks like things may have improved, now the new manager has establidhed himself, but I would never stay here again.

We have just returned from a short break at the Drumoig Hotel & Golf Course.
The hotel is very golf club-ish, the service is very good.
We stayed in one of the logdges which were tastefully furnished, ask for a room upstairs with a balconie for great view over the golf course.

This was a wonderful trip food was great, and drink was good too the prices were not expensive nice location and rooms have lofty cosy feel. Staff all attentive and satelite tv in rooms. recommend to anyone wanting a romatic trip away. However not for kids a very grown up feel.
