Had a works meal booked in Mumbles, we decided to stay at the Norton house so that we didnt have to worry about getting home.

The location of the hotel is fantastic, a stroll down to the beach in the morning cleared the head nicely.

The room was nicely decorated, I believe that there are new owners there, and they've been updating the hotel to how it should be. The breakfast was lovely, couldnt eat it all, there was too much!

The house is excellent in character and will be a perfect venue for weddings in the future.

“Dirty bathroom, poor service and communication”

All looked well on check in and my room was clean and comfortable. Things went downhill from then on. On arrival I booked for dinner, what they didn't tell me was that there would be a Rotary dinner there that evening so the restaurant was converted into a meeting room. On a positve note I said grace before dinner for the first time in years, was gven permission to remove my jacket and do you know It's amazing what you learn at one of their presentations! I was offered the alternative of eating in the bar, at a low table which I declined. Why could they not tell me there was a function on that evening? Why was it assumed that other guests would be happy to sit through the lecture!

The chef was also changing menus so I was offered three starters and two main courses. On complaining that the limited menu was not communicated to me when I had booked my table that afternoon, they added another starter and a fish dish. The food, however, was excellent quality and cooked well.

My main issue with this hotel was my bathroom. The shower attachment was stuck together with tape and the shower ceiling was thick with black mould. Spores could be seen in the air when the shower was turned on - hardly a healthy or appealing situation. It amazes me that the hotel staff and owners expect guests to pay for facilities in this state of cleanliness. How do these people think we all live - in grotty run down hovels?

I complained and they said it would be attended to. Room 1 if anyone is staying there soon!

The hotel said they are planning to start taking wedding bookings. I advise any prospective brides to check very carefully before booking their special day at this hotel.

A very mixed experience.
The food was excellent, although the restaurant lacked both atmosphere and any significant number of customers (12 on a Friday night in July; 10 on a Saturday). What was good, was that breakfast was not laid out until the restaurant was clear of dinner customers.
Looking at the restaurant carpet in the daylight it was very dirty and needs replacement. Breakfast on the Saturday was fine, but the selecton on Sunday was very limited.
Our room (No:4) was a "superior double" with a strange mixture of antique and MFI furniture - the wardrobe looked home made - and the lighting was very "chintzy". The, so-called, power shower over the bath was pathetic. The bed was fine and we slept well.
The hotel is situated in a residential area and the front lawns are overlooked by the houses opposite.

“Never again...”

Norton House Hotel & Restaurant

My partner and I recently stayed at the Norton House and to say we were dissapointed was an understament. We telephoned in advance to check that we could check-in at 12pm, upon arrival we were told we could not check in until 2:30pm. When we queried this, we were shown to a bedroom which had not been cleaned/made up from the night before so we still had to wait until after 2pm before we could get in the room. Once in the room we found that it was still dirty, the bathroom especially, but we simply didn't have time to wait for it to be cleaned again.

The following morning we waited for an hour and a half for our breakfast which when it came out, was inedible.

The staff seemed to have no clue and little interest in what they were doing.

Customer service....there was none!

Very dissapointing!

“Disappointing!”

Norton House Hotel & Restaurant

I have never taken time out to write a review on any hotel that I have stayed at however our experience at Norton House Hotel was really quite shocking.

I note the previous entry remarking on the worst service ever, an experience we shared added to that we were served the worst breakfast ever. We were a party of eight that arrived for breakfast at 09.00hrs. Our breakfast was served at 10.30hrs in a staggered fashion. There was no explanantion for the delay, we were simply reassured that our breakfast was on the way when we asked (on numerous occassions).

When our breakfast did arrive, an hour and a half later, basic items were missing from the advertised full english breakfast, again with no explanation.

The breakfast was not worth the wait, overcooked sausage and egg, not surprising given the wait and no bacon to compensate.

I see that the hotel prides itself on the excellent resaturant and service, our experience was quite the contrary.

Quite simply overpriced and a very disappointing experience.
