“Eastnor House Hotel”

Eastnor House

We stayed at Eastnor House Hotel for two nights and can recommend it as a pleasant place to be based whilst visiting Stratford-upon-Avon. It is very conveniently located, being less than a ten minute walk to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Our room was very clean and well furnished, and although the bathroom was very small and not new, it was clean with nice towels. Breakfast is a help yourself affair, (bacon, sausage, scrambled egg and baked beans kept hot) and was ample. I would certainly stay here again.

I have just recently returned from the Eastnor hotel with my family. We had 2 rooms booked, numbers 8 & 9. I could not really faulty the rooms as they were extremely large and fairly clean. When we first arrived I was surprised to find a mini bar in the room as you only usually find these in the larger hotels but it turned out that as the bar never opened while we were there this was the only way you could ever get a drink. On the first day I did complain that the bar was not open and was told that they were much to busy doing other things. Also, on the website they advertise the "beer garden" at the back which was abosolutely disgusting and never opened. The "lavish breakfast" was terrible. On the first day we could help ourselves to mouldy bread, cold eggs, bacon and sausage. The fruit looked like it had been there for days. Once we reached the weekend the quality did get slightly better but the food was never really warm and you were also made the feel very uncomfortable as your plates were taken away just as you had taken your last mouthful, the owner was hovering all the time. This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed and and I would certainly not recommend it to anyone.

“dirty and a nasty experience”

Eastnor House

The england flag drooping in the front garden two months after the world cup should have warned us what to expect.
We had the downstairs bed rooms, and the weekend's dirty sheets and towels were left outside our door all the time we were there, with a put -up bed and vacuum cleaner as well.
The hall and porch needed a good clean, and our carpet had a large stain in the middle of the floor which looked as if it had just been mopped over lightly, l hate to think what it was.
Thick dust and cobwebs on the picture rails, and the wooden chairs hadn't been dusted either.
Bathroom was clean but smelled off, as did the bedroom.
The hot food was barely warm at 8.30am and consisted of bacon sausages and scrambled egg.
The coffee was bitter and stewed but the young man was still telling guests at 9am that it was freshly brewed.
This is the worst B&B l have ever stayed in.

“Eastnor has improved!”

Eastnor House

My husband, mother-in-law, and myself spent 10 days in England. We stayed at the Eastnor house for 2 days on July 5 and 6. We were fortunate because all of the other hotels and B&B were either full or extremely expensive. We paid 100 pounds for our room. At first look, the B&B had multiple rooms, a bar, and breakfast room. There was a sitting area (I noticed smokers) in the back of the B&B. The decor was nice. There were pamplets for tourists (which we appreciate).

First, I am extremely surprised by the previous reviews. I assumed everyone would have loved the Eastnor House as much as my family and I. We did not experience the same stay as those in 2005. We stayed at room 10 with windows that faced the alleyway. The room was very spacious-we had a double bed (standard for England) and an ajoining room that had a twin for my mother-in-law. We had an in-suite bathroom that was small (again the standard) but very clean. The shower had hot water and had good water pressure.

A previous reviewer complained of the food items in the room for sale. My family and I thought this was a nice touch. My mother-in-law thought it was a nice convenience to buy her sodas and snacks versus crossing the street to buy them at a convenience store. The prices were not marked put a few pence more that those there (unlike at American hotels). Also complaints were made about the bedding and room decor. The wood matched in our room and in my mother's. The decor was very romantic and plush. The pillows were feather and huge. The devet was very comfortable. The windows opened easily (they were Victorian and had to be unlocked a certain way before opening, which the owner explained). I did notice the windows on the second floor facing the street were being held open by suitcases, though. Speaking of the street, it is facing a busy road, but traffic is slowing down because the Eastnor is one or two houses down from the junction (round-about). Compared to our first B&B it was NOT as loud, but one should be aware that air-conditioning is not common in England and that it does get hot in the summer (it was in the 80's for us which was being called a heat wave). So make sure to bring earplugs if noise bothers you. You have to open the windows to get air. Fans were provided.

For the breakfast, we also found it better than our first stay and my opinion, our last one in London. It was buffet style with scrambled eggs, ham, sausage, cereal, beans, orange juice, toast, coffee, tea and fruit. We appreciated the buffet, so we didn't have to wait on staff to serve us. The food was as warm as food that was served to us at our other two B&B. My husband and I especially loved the fruit and cream that was given. The room was very cute with matching tables and place settings. As previously told, the decor and food was a complaint of other reviewers. As I can tell, things have greatly improved.

The Eastnor is very conveniently located for the buzz of Stratford. We found the owners to be somewhat helpful. After talking to them, each spoke multiple languages. They recommended pubs that we loved.

“What a dump!”

Eastnor House

Jul 17, 2005

My husband and I stayed in the Eastnor House for one night during a 2-week visit to the U.K. in June and July. The hotel's website, other reviews, and the relatively high price had led us to expect a modestly elegant hotel. Not so. This place was a complete dump! If we hadn't arrived so late in the day, we probably would have sought alternate accommodations. I seriously considered sleeping in our rental car instead.

In addition to feeling squalid and dingy, the lobby and hallways were crammed with tacky racks of brochures and display cases of chachkes for sale. But this didn't prepare me for the horror to come. Our room, which fronted a major road and was directly across from a gas station, was shabbily-furnished, hot, stuffy, and smelled of mold, mildew and ammonia. We requested a different room, but were told none was available. Opening the nearly-painted-shut windows so we could breathe only worsened the loud roar of traffic noise. This traffic noise continued unabated all night long, and our sleep was further disturbed by drunks returning from late-night partying, wretching and screaming under the window. I hardly slept.

But this wasn't the worst of it. The room was truly, truly disgusting. The bedding looked like it was from the 1970's. It was gray and dingy. There were two saggy pillows, covered in zipped-up shams rather than pillowcases. My husband was so repulsed, he slept on top of the bedding. And the bathroom was completely gross too. If I hadn't felt so itchy and sickened by a night in the bedding, I wouldn't have even taken a shower the next morning. Fortunately, I had flip flops and gingerly used the moldy shower. To add insult to injury, they even had crap for sale (e.g., candy, alcohol) in the room! We awoke at first light, checked out and left before breakfast. Given the filthy conditions, we didn't even want to thing about their food preparation. The Eastnor House was undeniably the grossest hotel I've ever been in!
