I stayed at the Waldorf for a conference my firm was hosting and I think the hotel did a stand up job helping us through it and would recommend it as a conference venue. Because it was a business trip, I can't comment on value as I'm not sure what my bill was (yes, if only I had that luxury everytime!).
However, it's a very polished and distinguished looked hotel from the inside and outside. And it's located in a good location. You can walk to a lot of different sites and areas. Subways are close by too.
The room was your standard room but had more than ample space and definitely felt roomy. The hotel restaurant was good (although, it wasn't very busy) and I found the hotel bar to be a nice place to have some drinks too. I ordered room service on an occassion as well and found the food to be good too. The business centre was well equiped (free printing functionality) and was open 24 hours (I needed it too). Unfortunately, I did not manage to try any of the facilities (gym etc.).
The Waldorf definitely has the 'wow' factor (as demonstrated when I told a friend of mine who lives in London to pick me up at the Waldorf and he said 'wow'). Unforunately, I believe it is quite pricey but if you can expense it or afford it I'd recommend it.
