“A Lovely hotel stay”

The Montcalm Nikko

My husband and I stayed here 4 nights 25-29August I had never stayed in a hotel in London before; I was born and grew up there but finally ran out of relatives to stay with. I bought it as the ‘Mystery Hotel’ on [---] for STG 88.00pn.It wasn’t such a mystery when they named the restaurant!
When I lived there I had no idea it existed, 5 minutes from Marble Arch in a small Crescent, the location is fantastic. We took a cab from Paddington, after arriving on the Heathrow Express, our driver had no trouble finding it.Well,I would have been shocked if he did, they still do ‘the knowledge’. I had wondered if we would end up in the broom cupboard, but we had a lovely room on the 5th No smoking floor. Large entry hall, with trouser press (that seems to be terribly important in London hotels) Extra large room, with armchair, sofa, coffee table, TV, storage.Very comfortable King single beds (only bit my husband didn’t like) and just perfect snugly pillows. Tea & coffee making in the room. The bathroom was large, toiletries replenished every day-and towels arranged in origami type shapes. It was absolutely whisper quiet, once we closed the room door didn’t know anyone else was in the hotel.
Staff was charming and professional.
We didn’t eat in the restaurant, so cannot comment on that. We stayed in some dumps on the rest of our long trip so I held on to the memory of the Montcalm!

Loved it-would I stay here again-yes please!

“Great Find”

The Montcalm Nikko is a wonderful place to stay in London. Location is right near the Marble Arch and is a one minute walk to the Central Line tube stop. It is in an upscale area, quiet yet right in the heart of London. The northeast corner of Hyde Park is one minute away. The room was slightly small, but very efficientlyh laid out, comfortable and clean with good storage. The bathroom was the best: all marble, great water pressure, bidet, huge towels. Beds were very comfortable with great down bedding. The room seemed newly outfitted. We appreciated the inroom safe. Continental breakfast was included in our room rate - otherwise it would have been too expensive to eat there - 16pounds each for continental breakfast. The restaurant is elegant and the food very good considering. Tip - Try booking the hotel through British Airways for a good deal including breakfast. Otherwise, eat breakfast elsewhere. Ask for a decent view if you care, as we saw some rooms had poor views. Otherwise - great stay!

“we loved the Montcalm”

We stayed at the Montclm from Sept. 18-24, 2006. It is a beautiful hotel. It is close to the Marble Arch and a short walk to the MArble Arch tube station. Also very close to Oxford Street. When we arrived at Heathrow, we took the Heathrow Express to Paddington Station and then took a short cab ride to the hotel. Our cabbie knew just where it was located. Our room had a king-sized bed and our room price included a full English breakfast (150 pounds per night including VAT). By American standards the room is on the smaller side but not so much that you feel uncomfortble. The staff was very helpful and the concierge was used several times by us and always was knowledgeable. We bought tickets to several sites there and avoided standing on long lines once we got to them. We would definitely stay here again; it is located on a quiet street, yet is within five minutes to the tube and shopping. If you get one of their special price deals, it is really quite reasonable compared to other hotels of the same caliber.

“Some rooms GREAT, others not so much.”

Truly a mixed bag.

We spent a night in London after arriving from the US then took 5 days in the country and back to London for 9 more days. We upgraded to a Duplex Suite for the stay, planning to try it out for the first night and then keep the upgrade for the return trip if we liked it.

The room for the first night was OK, not wonderful, kinda shabby and lower end but OK. With this in mind we begrudingly planned to keep the upgrade. When we returned to London we were put in the very smallest Duplex Suite, about half the width of the original ws. hich made it unaccepatable for uWe had to push fairly hard to get an interim room for the first night with a promise of a better Duplex Suite the next day. The interim room was a Junior Suite that felt like it was in a totally different hotel. Cleaner, more modern, nicer, less shabby. We were shown a larger Duplex Suite the next day but opted to stay in our Junior Suite. Overall nan OK resolutio, but kinda stressful getting what we needed as our Reservations Clerk was basically a go-between and had no power of her own.

The location of the hotel is great, a block from Marble Arch.

Wired Internet is VERY expensive.

Breakfast is VERY expensive and underwhelming. 17 pounds for a small English Breakfast when the 2 course dinner is 24 pounds is outrageous. When my vegatarian wife asked for no meat on her English Breakfast she got one tablespoon of beans, a quarter of a mushroom and a (yes A) home fry!!!!

Dinner is VERY nice. Good food, well served, good choice, great price.

Rooms are quiet and even the back view is interesting.

There's a LOT of choice in London and we probably won't come to the Montcalm again.
