We stayed as a party of three adults for one night (last week)

Check in was smoothe and problem free.

The room itself was spacious and contained a double and two singles (a family room). It was clean and comfortable.

We were impressed with the selection of complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits.

The area itself is lovely and the hotel is very central to the high street/attractions.

There were a couple of things that really let the hotel down for us.

+ The shower - Very poor water pressure and seemingly enough hot water for the 1st shower only. The two subsequent showers were luke-warm.

+ One of the beds in the room had a 'lumpy' mattress.

+ The breakfast arrangements. As noted by others, to be able to utilise the (hot) breakfast included in the room rate you have to choose a 'slot' in advance so as not to overwhelm the small kitchen. This is fair enough in a small hotel I guess.
As we checked in around 1800 many of the early slots were taken so we had to wait until later in the morning for our turn (not ideal when wanting to continue our long weekend tour).
As the staff were aware of our arrival time to breakfast I would have expected a table to be set and ready (especially as we sat around in our room waiting for our designated slot).
We stood around for quite a while before a table was made ready for us.
When it was prepared it was not satisfactory. Our waiter, whilst being friendly and approachable, brought us a handful of cutlery (some of which was spotted) and plonked it in the middle of the table to take ourselves. Side plates etc were brought to us in a pile and left in the same fashion. Cups were brought from the kitchen piled high and leaning against the waiters shirt, not really a professional look.
The hot breafast itself was fine though still quite a wait for it to arrive. We had to ask for bowls and butter as the staff failed to replenish stocks that depleted.
The above combined made the whole breakfast service appear sloppy and disorganised.

This hotel is fine for a couple of nights but I would probably try somewhere else if I were to return to the area.

Having just returned from a 3 night break at this hotel, I had to write this review for anyone who is thinking about booking this hotel. There were 15 of us in total who were gathering for a family celebration. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel extremely welcome (including the children). Our family room (for 2 adults, 1 child and 1 infant) was spacious, well-equipped and very light and airy. The room consisted of a double and single bed and a travel cot which was perfect for our needs. The bed was very comfortable and the linen was very crisp and clean. The breakfast consisted of a choice of cereals, fresh fruit, yogurts, danish pastries, fruit juices, tea or coffee and then a full english breakfast with plenty of toast. So both children and adults are well catered for. The food in the restaurant for lunch and dinner was good quality too. There are many great points about this hotel - very child friendly, fantastic location, good food, very friendly and helpful staff, good complimentary refreshments etc. If there is one criticism that I must make, then it is that the service at breakfast was a bit hit and miss in respect of that on two occasions we were waiting a long time for 2 adults and 2 children to be served with our hot drinks and cooked breakfasts (you help yourself to cereals, yogurts etc), but this is a small criticism and overall, it would not put me off staying there again. If we were to travel to Bourton-On-The-Water again, we would definately stay here again.

We stayed here as a party of eight and booked two family rooms. The standard of the accommodation is exceptional. The decor is very modern and the place is kept very clean.
Staying here means that you are within 100 yards of the village centre and perfectly located.
The extra touches make all the difference. The hotel will gladly lend customers a DVD player and have a bank of films all available for no charge at all.
Very impressed and would highly recommend.

We have just returned from a weekend stay at the Chester House Hotel to celebrate a family birthday. We were a party of 13 adults and 2 children (under 5) and the hotel could not have looked after us better. The staff were all welcoming and friendly and accommodated all of our numerous requests over the weekend. One minor complaint would be that service could sometimes be a little slow at busy times, but everything was always delivered with a smile and so it is difficult to worry too much. Our party had rooms in both the courtyard and the main hotel: all were spacious, comfortable and very reasonably priced. The family room was particularly large and the four poster room sumptuous. The hotel is just off the main riverside walk in Bourton on the Water and offered a quiet sanctuary away from the crowded streets. There’s lovely garden at the rear where you could relax and read the papers over a cream tea or a glass of wine. For the younger visitors, it is a short stroll to local attractions such as Birdland and the motor museum. All of our party greatly enjoyed their stay and we look forward to returning soon.

“Pleasant stay”

Chester House Hotel

Aug 27, 2007

Hi,
Just returned from staying at this hotel for three days over the Bank Holiday. The hotel is clean, public areas nice and bright,The room we had in the adjacent building(No.26) was a good size overlooking the garden at the back.If you get good weather as we did the garden is a good area to enjoy a drink.
All the staff we encountered were mainly young but pleasant and eager to please.
They did experience some flooding in the recent bad weather. We had booked the Croft House reataurant belonging to the hotel for the Saturday night but this was out of action because of the flooding but they accomodated us in the hotel area which was fine.
Overall a good place to stay.Value for money and we would stay here again.
