“Staying on the Concierge Level (12th floor) is worth it!!”

My husband, 15 month old, and I stayed at the Fairmont while attending the conference. It couldn't have been a more convenient location -- right across the street from Union Station, within very close proximity to the CN Tower and countless restaurants, shops, and banks.

We got a deal through Expedia that gave us a cheaper rate than the conference room rate and upgraded us to the concierge Gold floor. We weren't familiar with the perks of the concierge level but since it was cheaper, we went for it and couldn't have been happier. You have express check-in/out, concierge just for the floor, turn-down service with 2 free bottles of water every night. Free hors d'oevres just for Gold floor residents every evening from 5-7pm (and they were very fancy - lemongrass shrimp skewers, asparagus wrapped with roast beef). This actually took the place of dinner twice so it saved quite a bit of money. There was a deluxe breakfast buffet as well with all kinds of fresh cut fruit (even lychee), fancy omelets that changed every day, various pastries, breads, cheeses, a few types of fish. This was the fanciest hotel inclusive buffet I had ever had. All food was served on nice china. In other words, the food is a very nice perk.

The room was nicely furnished and I also liked the toiletries (imported from Slovakia). The hotel embodied class. However, the one complaint is that being a historic hotel, the walls were extremely thin and I could hear sounds very clearly on both sides of our room (even someone coughing). We felt that the pros definitely outweighed the cons at this hotel.

“Good location, a few problems”

This hotel is in a great location to the convention center and other areas/restaurants in toronto. Had a few issues -- walls are thin, cable channels are average, rooms are pretty small. Biggest problem was that the York Deli (downstairs on the Avenues level) was actually quite reasonable but charged a few extra things to my room after I did (just a few but I bet they bank on business travelers who don't check their bill that closely). Concierge and service was excellent. Room service as usual was average and expensive. Overall if you're not paying for it and are going to a conference at the Convention center or a Blue Jays game, its a decent place to stay. Friends stayed at the Renaissance and enjoyed it as well. Also you can get to the convention via the underground Path to Union Station to the Skywalk if it's raining. Don't eat at the convention center, there's a food court across the way.

Having read some poor reviews about this hotel we were slightly anxious about staying there, but what are people complaining about!!
Check in was a worrying few moments as we'd requested two ajoining rooms, a double & twin. The receptionist took a while to find us suitable accomodation as there was a conference on the day we arrived. However we were allocated two rooms in the recently refurbished 6th floor which were very good. Not huge in size, but more than adequate.

We used the pool on two occasions & the staff there were very helpful.

The location was great for the CN Tower.

The carpark was $24 a day, make sure you get your voucher from reception to get the discount.

We ate breakfast in the cafe in the mall under the hotel, huge selection of food buffet style.

Don't have the bottled water in the room, go to the souvenir shop in the mall (open 'til late) where it's a lot cheaper!

The hotel had an old style elegance about it without being stuffy.

“Very Elegant”

My wife and I treated my parents to a weekend in Toronto as a gift. We chose the Royal York as it seemed to be a elegant hotle with a convenient location. These assumptions were correct. I found the facilities to be well maintained for the age and the amenities numerous. The restaurant, Epic, located on site has a fantastic high tea service. Excellent food, and attentive service.

I booked through Expedia and found that the prices were quite reasonable, 165 per night (including taxes!) I would hole heartedly recommend this hotel to others.

My only caveat to travelers is that it is a very classic hotel, not a new place that is austere and modern. I prefer the muted understatement of older hotels, but if you wish to stay in a Modern, sharp edged, new style hotel, you may be disappointed.

“An excellent hotel”

The Fairmont Royal York

An excellent old urban hotel. Some of the older urban properties are worn-down, tired. The FRY was fresh, clean, looked like it had been recently updated but had the amenities of an older property with great location, lots of open space. Very friendly staff, helfpul concierge. Rooms were quiet, clean and comfortable with nice amenities. Easy walk to many local eateries, attractions, convention center. I liked the fact that there were many different dining options within the hotel. One of my most positive urban hotel experiences. I highly recommend it.
