We stayed at the Sheraton for a few nights in August. The hotel has a great location. The service was friendly inside the hotel. The room was large, but a little dark.
We had taken our car in and out of Valet service each day for 3 days, and didn't have any problems with our car until our last day.
When we were picking up our car from the Valet after checkout, the Valet parked the car a few metres back from where the Valet usually parked the car. We have a BMW that has a key fob, rather than a standard American style car key. The key fob would not click into our ignition properly. It would not stay in the ignition, so we were having difficulty starting the car. We must have been in front of the valet stand, attempting to start the car for over half an hour. There were at least 3 valets nearby, but none of them offered to help us. I finally went inside, and the friendly concierge gave me the contact information for the BMW dealer in Otawa. We finally managed to get the key fob into its slot, and start the ignition, but then it was impossible to remove it. This meant that we were now able to drive, and we'd be able to start and stop the ignition, but the battery would continue to be on if we stopped the ignition.
When we got to the Ottawa dealership, they were unable to remove the fob, but suggested this may have occured if someone tried to remove the fob by pulling hard to remove the fob from the slot, rather than gently clicking in gently to remove it. They had never seen the problem before, in any of their cars.We ended up deciding to drive home, rather than staying in Ottawa several more nights to wait for the part to arrive at BMW.
Once we were at our own dealership, it was discovered that 2 parts were broken inside the slot. They had never seen this problem before. BMW believed this damage was done by someone forcefully pulling the key fob from the slot. Luckily our car was under warranty and it was fixed free of charge.
I placed a call to the Manager of the Sheraton, and he was very helpful and friendly, and put me in touch with the Company that supplies the Valet service to the Sheraton. The Manager of the Valet service made some inquiries, and returned my call about a week later. He claimed that he spoke to each of the 3 or 4 Valets who had driven our car, and that 1 of them may have noticed a little sticking with the key, but nothing serious. His conclusion was that their Valets knew how to use our car and hadn't caused any damage.
I wonder if it was the last Valet to bring the car up that may have pulled the fob out incorrectly. What I do know is that we didn't have a problem until we left our car with their Valet service, and I will be hesitant to leave my car with a Valet again in Ottawa.
The Sheraton itself was fine, but I didn't get the feeling that the Company supplying the Valet service trains or supervises its Valets sufficiently.
