Have recently returned from 1 week at the Riu. It is a beautiful property. Unfortunately check in was a mess, we had booked a Jr. Suite through Sunquest. All of us checking in were advised to go to the lobby bar for our envelopes - so after waiting in line there we were advised that we must go to reception. There were about 4 of us, all had suites, and again had to wait some time before anyone would pay attention to us. Why?
The ocean view, as per the brochure, was correct if the view is judged from standing on one side of your balcony!
Apart from that, it was an enjoyable stay.
The room was very nice, mini bar always stocked and kept very clean. In fact the entire resort is spotless - they are constantly cleaning.
The food is good. We tried the Japanese - excellent, the French - food good, service left a great deal to be desired. Never did get around to the Mexican but had lunch there several times when it was Italian - food good, wonderful views from the patio.
The resort is advertised as a 5 star - the staff need a little more polish for it to rate that.
