The royal was an amzing place to stay at especially as newlyweds. We came here for our honeymoon and we expected less. It was very good, satifsfying and definitly well worth every penny. We had a great time with the animators,especially with Carlos and Rosario. One piece of advice I would love to give is enjoy every minute once it is over you wish you would have been back. Dont be shy just get involveld in anything especially at the pool area. Between the beach and the pool we enjoyed the pool better.

The beach was still nice but there are a lot of rocks in the ocean therefore please bring shoes to go in the ocean with. The food is incredible. Our favorate place was definitly Chef's plate. I would recoommend the steak. Take advantage of the room service they have and you must try their chocolate cake. We ordered it every night. Hope you will take my advice and decide to go to this honeymoon spot we sure have NO regrets!!

The resort was clean and nice. The entertainment staff were wonderful and made for a good experience. My wife and I went to this resort for our ten year anniversary. The staff did a good job in welcoming us. Our main problem was with the stock in the room. We had to call house keeping three times to provide us with wash clothes. They also stocked our mini-bar with one glass. However, once this issue was addressed with the concerige, they provided us with the things needed for two. It would have also been nicer if the resort had a hamburger type grill like a resort we stayed in Cosumel. The food was good; however, everything seemed to be semi-formal instead of going up to an outside grill in a bathing suit. We also made the mistake of brushing our teeth with the water. Our stomachs were upset with us throughout the trip. The evening entertainment was excellent and the bar staff was very accommadating. We will able to avoid the time share people, whcih was a plus. "No Thanks" went a long way. The beach was okay; however, there were rock issues directly in front of the resort. Therefore, we could not go in the water. Overall, i was disappointed with this resort being rated six star. I would give in three and a half to four star at best.

Short and sweet
Having stayed at most of the hotels in the city surrounding area, this is the only place you should stay if you want to be in Playa Del Carmen. Again, this is if you want to be IN the city, there are plenty of beautiful beaches/hotels in the surrounding area that are worth taking a look at as well.

We are just home from our honeymonn, which started off with two weeks in The Royal in Playa del Carmen. As with all of the other reviewers we had an excellent time, great food, great service etc. BUT there is one thing I want to mention that I have not seen anywhere in the previous reviews, The Real Club. The resort is part of the Real club by the way.
Myself and my husband arrived late at night, the following day we were getting famiar with our surroundings and at one point we asked one of the ladies in guest services where the gym was. After giving us directions, we chatted for a while and we were invited to a welcome breakfast the next morning which we accepted. This welcom breakfast turned into a 2 and a half hour intensive sales pitch for a holiday club TIME SHARE. It was very intense and forceful and although we said no it wasn't really for us they wouldn't let it go and before we managed to escape we were propositioned by 4 sales people. It was not an enjoyable experience and it did leave a bitter taste with us I have to say.
But if you stay away from this aspect you will have a perfect holiday, I just felt that people needed to be aware of this.
