Returned home from the Tequila yesterday, what a great holiday, all in all probably the best.
Few main points to consider if thinking of booking.
Thompson, lovely resort reps who try their best but the air stewards and stewardesses are cold to the point of ignorant.
Travel experience, uncomfortable and draining, 13 hours (birmingham-manchester-cancun) then 1hr to resort but the place makes up for it. One word to Thompson, if you do merge two flights please offer the passengers from the first airport a drink, we had to wait 4 hours!!
Cancun airport isnt a great experience and the $50 each to leave is a rip-off. moan over.
Resort, not much in Playacar but the hotels and beach, this however is not a problem you have all you need. Playa Del Carmen is a lively and vibrant little town and worth a day and night out.
Hotel + Beach, WOW. If you were deciding which hotel to book Tequila Tequila Tequila. Don't worry that it isnt on the beach, this is a good thing, its a short stroll away (I also find it hilarious that people can whinge about it!)and it is not taken over by guests from the other Rius so when you fancy a day by the pool it isnt packed! The grounds are beautiful abd leafy with interesting wildlife, the pool is great, pool bar not packed, lots of games and diversions if thats your bag. its easy to find your way around and and the lobby/reception is lovely, everything is very easy to the eye and easy to find! Drinks are only watery if you buy the the pre-made cocktails, if you order the spirits they will knock you silly!! The main bar is good if a little small as everyone wants a stool round it. The sports bar has everything you need but can get a little noisy if there is an American Football match on. The shows are good fun if a little amateur, maybe a bit old fashioned but good for families. Never tried the disco. The food is good in the main, great omelettes with various fillings made fresh for you at breakfast, lots of choice of meat and rices, pastas and salads for lunch and dinner. You cannot complain about the food because it is very difficult to cater for that many and they seem to be cooking 24/7. Anyone can get bored of eating the same things in the same place for a week or two its human nature and should not be detrimental to the hotel. The best thing about the hotel however as everyone has said Is the staff, it really is true, they are so nice and helpful, so hardworking and gracious. They make the holiday and if you go you will see what I mean.
The beach as said is a short stroll away or climb on the wally trolley to take you, its in front of the Yucatan so you can still get your snacks and drinks, you will never have trouble finding a sunlounger either. The sea crystal blue and the sand is white and I will miss going down to that beach as it we went everyday it was so beautiful. Book for the Tequila you won’t regret it!
