We just returned from The Presidente IC- Cozumel, we stayed last 2 weeks of Oct 2007.(Husb and 4 1/2 year old). We lived in the Eastern Carib & have visited most all of the islands there and the Presidente was as nice as Little Dix Bay- in BVI.( our gold standard) and the island was gorgeous with so much to do and see. We got a free up grade to Ocean front room, with 2 showers, (1 outside )and a HUGE bathroom, tub, double vanity. Our deal incl. free meals for our child and the kids menu was more than fine. Plenty of closet and drawer space to unpack. We literally walked steps from our patio into some of the best snorkeling ever! My 4 year old snorkeled with us, the beach was the best of all of the hotels. The pool is elegant not cheesy, like with a swim up bar - ugh. There is also an adult pool. If it got too cold for a night swim, they would turn the water heater on. The service was outstanding, never met the manager, but the assistant manager ? name?, tended to our every need. Our Room was spacious & immaculate- it was wonderful to come in every afternoon to pristine room, with towel animals and fresh flowers(Hola T). B/c of low season, we felt like we had the resort to ourselves at times. Most of the guests we met were repeaters to the Presidente! The weather ran the gamut- we chose the overcast days to visit San Gervasio ruins and to shop for silver and pewter -( finished my Holiday shopping) or paint pottery by the pool. We had a wonderful babysitter one night- so hubby and I could shop and dine in town( Hola A.)! We ate at Alfredo's twice, celebrated our anniv. hotel sent a delicious surprise! Eating at the resort for all meals got expensive, so we ate in town and had fabulous meals- cheap. And No One got sick. We researched all inclusive resorts, but typically food is average at best, so we liked ordering what we wanted at the Pres. A cab ride to town cost $5usd, but we tipped 1 or 2 bucks. We did not rent a car, should have, but enjoyed talking to the drivers & learned a lot. Most drive VW- version of Jetta or van. I felt safer in town than where I live. the ppl. are as nice and laid back as can be. I had the Fodor's book on Cozumel and read Trip Advisor posts, which were all on the money as far as recommendations and useful info. My husb. speaks Spanish, but he did not need it, cept that he loved talking to the cab drivers and restaurant owners. All of the parks were excellent and very professional, plenty of beach chairs, all u need is a towel! We spent 1 day at Chankanaub Park, we did the Royal Dolphin swim- $139pp, worth Every penny but try to go on a day with few cruise ships. 2 days at Punta Sur, an eco park, with calm crystal waters, white sandy beaches and snorkeling. Horseback riding and ATV ride through the jungle at Mr. Sanchos on a cloudy day. Snorkeling trip w/ Scuba Du, the on-site dive shop, And so much more to do! * OK- the downside- the hotel charges, taxes, fees, add up- so plan on that. Dining cover charge is $10, plus tip, but those guys work hard. When you arrive, you will be greeted by a sales group for the hard sell- Just Say NO from the get go. A Supposed "free rental car or spa visit " was not worth being pinned down for an appointment time & listening to the hour plus spiel about a vacay club. I Never was clear about the Chiqui club for kids, maybe b/c of low season? Hopefully it will be staffed w/ ppl like our our great babysitter!
The spa was beautiful but re-check the price Before the service. We prolly over tipped- but with a messy 4 year old, $5/day for room cleaning was worth it.Plus - turn down service. Bring lots of fives and ones. Overall- it was our best vacation as a family, great for everyone, except maybe ppl looking for a big party scene. Morning coffee in room was free, but their cappuccino was better than Starbucks! Would not change one thing about our stay at the Presidente IC, Cozumel. Hope to be a repeat guest!
