We stayed at the ME Cancun for 4 nights and it was a pleasant experience overall. I would have rated the hotel 5 stars if it were not for the service on our day of arrival.
We had requested two rooms with double beds several days prior to arrival. Our rooms were not ready when we arrived but we were a little early so it was okay. The second time we went back, it was quite difficult to get a response from the front desk letting us know whether our rooms were ready. After waiting around for a good 15 minutes, we were informed we had two adjacent rooms with double beds. When we arrived at the rooms, we noticed that only one of the rooms had double beds. We again had to go back to the front desk and ask to be switched to another room. We were told that we'd have to wait another hour for the room to be ready. We were tired from the flight and it was just an additional hassle that put a damper on the beginning of our vacation. (Make sure that if you take a cab from the airport that the driver understands you are going to the ME Melia and NOT the gran melia! our cab driver brought us to the wrong hotel)
The rooms are very nice, and like the hotel decor, are very modern and also very clean. One of the two rooms smelled a bit musty for the entire trip but that can't be helped much in a place as humid as cancun and we found that turning the AC on high helped a little. The beds are very comfortable and there is plenty of storage space. The bathroom is pretty large and the rain shower is definitely one of the nicest things about the room. We figured out by accident that by hitting one of the switches in the bathroom, that there are speakers transmitting whatever is on TV into the bathroom.
The concierge desk was very helpful (without the people working there, we probably would have gotten very lost) and they gave us some good advice.
The pool was probably our favorite part of the hotel. We went when it was not particularly crowded and there would never be more than a few people in the pool at the same time as us. There was never a problem with finding a chair or a place to sit / lie down.
The location is very convenient and is very close walking distance to La Isla mall and the R1 and R2 buses stop almost directly in front of the hotel.
We made the big mistake of searching for a nicer strip of beach since there isn't too much sand on the property (especially during high tide). Just a note for anyone looking for good beach areas along the hotel zone: there aren't too many public access points to get on and off of the beach so make sure that you leave from where you came from or you could wind up walking a good 2km looking for a place where you can leave and get back to the roads. Also, even though these beaches are supposedly "public," we were still repeatedly approached and glared at by security making sure we wouldn't use any of their beach chairs. It was a very unpleasant experience. In my opinion, stay by the hotel pool or just walk towards one of the beach areas by the adjacent hotels (just don't use their beach chairs!) so that you will not have a problem getting back.
Unlike check in, check out was pretty quick. We were charged for a drink that we did not order but that was also sorted out pretty quickly. The value was excellent since we got a great package deal from Orbitz. Overall, we had a great stay at the ME cancun and would recommend the hotel.
