“GR Solaris....nice!”

GR Solaris Cancun

Orbitz and Mexicana were not the best place to book given the fact that our flight was canceled 4 days before leaving. We had to rebook w/another airlines...Aeromexico was nice.
The hotel staff was very nice, polite and helpful w/any questions. The all-inclusive is the only way to go which included room service. One thing I didn't understand was why the buffet had better food than the MarcoPolo restaurant which you had to make reservations for(minimal seafood and boring steak). Overall a nice clean hotel. Make sure to take a day tour to Isla.

We ended up at the GR Solaris but were booked at the Solaris Cancun. When we got there we were told they didnt have any rooms and we were being "upgraded" to the GR. So, we got back in the van and zipped over to the GR where the timeshare sales pitch started immediately. We had traded in via RCI and had 2 rooms. We rejected the timeshare presentation and then had to do so a couple of more times. I was then given a room key. When I asked about the view I was told we were not "entitled" to ocean view. I refuted that statement and they came back and said if we went to the presentation they would upgrade up to ocean view. By that time we had been traveling for 8 hours and I just gave in. The timeshare presentation went as I anticipated and after 2 1/2 hours saying no to 5 salespeople (each time you say no to one sales rep they send in another) we left and didnt have to deal with it again. If you want to go, just be prepared for the hard sell. I will say they were not nearly as bad as others I have attended down there.

The beach was beautiful but small (I am told it used to be larger before Wilma) and the water was gorgeous. Unfortunatley, it was so rough we couldnt spend much time in it - the current wisked you right up north in a hurry! So we just went to the pools instead. They were very nice, temperature just right but if you have children you will want the lower pool. They do a lot of games at the other one that are a bit much for say 7-11 year olds. Walking by one day my 9 year old looked at me and said "well that was very inappropriate" when a woman began rubbing her breasts on the other man in the "game". We got a good laugh out of it but didnt spend time there. It is tough to get an umbrella and it was HOT so get out there early.

Service was excellent everywhere. Everyone always had a smile. The food was just ok. A couple of nights it was great and the breakfast was always good but the rest...eh. We only ate at the Marco Polo one night and it was good but I wouldnt rave about it. Beware that they dont serve bottled water (though they do stock some in your room each day) but it is all purified etc. We didnt have any problems at all but it was a little disconcerting at first just because of everything you hear about the water in Mexico.

The rooms were nice and fairly roomy. Very clean - just like the rest of the property. Plenty of towels, robes, shampoo, etc. Balconies very small but we werent there to spend time on the balcony. we never made it to any of the shows at night but heard they were good.

All in all we had a good week and cant complain but I probably wouldnt return there because of the food and it wasnt as family oriented as we had hoped (one of the main reasons we had booked at their other property).

“NY/NJ people Good Hotel”

GR Solaris Cancun

4 of 5 stars

Since this website helped me decide which hotel to pick and what to expect once i got to the hotel..ill write my own review.

The hotel is very clean, i am from NY/NJ area and we have very high expectations of hotels. This hotel was very very clean...the bathroom was clean, the room was clean and there was always people cleaning up.

The Food..gets you by...its not good, its not bad, its ok....ask the chef to make you what you want. Since its all buffet, its not a big deal.

The drinks...they dont use US liquour, meaning Grey goose, etc. they use their domestic liquor....the drinks are good, the water is purified, but the glasses are plastic. I didnt care for plastic glasses, i think they hold germs, i dunno why, its one of my
-isms.

Men should bring a collared shirt.

Men and Women should have water shoes, the pool has a gravel bottom which makes your feet sensitive. go to sports athority or Target and by 2 pairs fo $10.

Thats all i can really say....the hotel is 10min from the airport, dont bother exchanging american dollars for pesos...I didnt, i used A/X.

Other than that, if you have never been to an all inclusive, you either love it or hate it or your not sure if you would do it again...I personally, am unsure if i would do it again, but i would stay at the hotel again.

GR Solaris Cancun

I own a timeshare at their sister property in Cabo San Lucas, but wanted to try this location. I spent a total of 6 days and 7 nights at this location. As I said, I am a member with this Resort chain, and I am regretting ever have joined or stayed at this location in Cancun. My biggest complaint is with management. They are trying to advertise a 5 star atmosphere but when it comes to delivery they are more like a Black Hole. Some of the waiters and waitresses are partialy trained, but the overall staff needs extra training. As a member I am suppossed to get added perks. For instance, they are to provide robes and slippers for members, but I practically had to beg and plead for them to be delivered to my room. They did but not until the last day of my stay. Also as a member, I am suppossed to have access to a "Member's Only" menu and wine list. These were very rarely provided, and when requested they avoided providing for me and my party. FInally, as a third, but no where near the final comment, they had a Brazilian Barbeque night. Not only had they lost my original reservation, and subsequant change to the later seating, but the service was third world. At a Brazilian BArbeque, they carry the meat serving around on a spit and serve to customers by carving the meat off of it. All of the servers instead of placing on a separate plate, placed the spit on each person's plate, and carved from there. How unsanitary is this?
It is a shame that management cannot address the concerns of its membership first. Yet they want you to be a part of their "Referral Team" so they can grow membership.

7th trip back to Cancun...1st time to GR Solaris. Remember everyone has their OWN personal experience!!!

I had never encountered "Time Shares" in Cancun.....well this time it was so annoying. At the front desk after my hubby & I checked in we were given to ------- who promotes the time shares. (Their are several men & women who do it) Yes, he is soooo nice. Hard to say no to. We should have been stearn from the get-go and said no. He left us alone for a few days than everytime he saw us he would ask, come looking for us at breakfast, by the pool etc etc. He would make you feel bad saying he needed the credit to support his family. We never did do it but it left a BAD TASTE IN OUR MOUTH for the Solaris.

Yes, beds are hard, food is just okay. Best meal of the day like others say is breakfast.

Resort is very clean. Staff works very hard and is paid so little so we tipped them because we wanted to even though it is included in the AI package. The staff works sometimes 16 hours a/day.

Pool is very nice at the beginning of the day, but as the day goes on you begin to notice some of these people at the bar never get out!!! Even the entertainment staff asked them one day about it. You can figure that one out.

Watch your towels. Not only mine was taken, but I heard others say theirs were too, and if you do not have a towel card to turn in at check out there is a pricey little fee for that green towel. I had sandals stolen on the beach as I was lying right there also....... UNBELIEVABLE!! This never happened at the other resort and I heard a girl talking about how her camera was stolen the night before when she turned her back for just a few minutes.

Entertainment staff is Great!!!! They work so hard. They start at 9am work all day and evening than at 11p they take those who want to go to a certain bar out in town and stay until 3or 4. It is crazy and they always have a smile.

Yes, there are "crazy games" by the pool throughout the day. If the parents do not feel comfortable and do not want the kids to see there is a kids pool and kids club & the beautiful beach!! Take them to it. The staff does volleyball, bingo, water polo etc through out the day. This is Cancun not DISNEYWORLD!!!!! There is a swim-up bar people are drinking and having fun---this is Cancun!!! Kids 14 and above are usually okay. There were some very well behaved kids and some were not.

We met so many great people. Sundays and Thursdays are Karoke night. 2 night in one week is to much. The people singing in the lobby bar at night need more up to date music. There was alot of Elvis.

Our room was at the very end of the hall. 26. I recommend asking for an end room and not by the elevators. Those rooms would be terrible. Bring a small fan. It drowns out alot of the noise in the halls.
