“The vacation of a lifetime”

Paraiso de la Bonita

For once I am at lack of words to describe such a wonderful experience!!! The hotel, the staff, the rooms, the service, the food, the beach.....can all be resumed in one word OUTSTANDING!!!!. This is a fantastic property for those looking to be pampered, peace and quiet and with a great palate and all around luxury. While not for those looking for nightlife, if you are looking for that unforgettable vacation...this is the place. It is definitely one of the 10 places to stay at in a lifetime.

“Wonderful Hotel for Pure Relaxation”

Paraiso de la Bonita

4 of 5 stars

My wife and I just returned from a fabulous long weekend at Paraiso De La Bonita. This is a wonderful resort that I would recommend for anyone who is looking to do nothing but lay by the pool or beach, read, and eat good food. Below are our likes and dislikes.

Dislikes:
1. The beds were hard. Being accustomed to the Heavenly Bed's has spoiled us. This was a dissapointment.
2. The hotel advertises private transfers in a Lincoln Navigator. However, the Mexican government shut that down temporarily and though the transfer was still private it was in a large van.
3. Slight mold smell. Not much of a problem because we had our balcony doors open much of the time but the hurricane soaking caused some lingering mold smell.

Likes:
1. Total relaxation. Everything is designed for a wonderfully relaxing time. The pool is fabulous, no deep end, but perfect for lounging and reading a book.
2. Great Plunge Pool Rooms. Though not deep, the plunge pool in our room was perfect. Also, a nice "bed" on our patio allowed us to enjoy every morning outside from the privacy of our room.
3. Food. Overall, based upon other experiences in the Cancun area, the food was well above average. I agree with other review's that it is a bit pricy but we had a package with free breakfasts and dinners. We had room service breakfast every morning which was very quick (less than 30 minutes) and I had lobster for dinner three nights.
4. Spa. Nice spa, very relaxing. During our stay the resort was probably not half full so I am sure that helped in the fact that the spa was not crowded. We were able to get every booking we wanted and overall the treatments were wonderful.
5. Service. The service was excellent. Some may not like it because people aren't stopping to check on you every five minutes but the staff delivered on every single request with class and efficiency.

One thing we liked but others may not is there were iguana's and birds in abundance. That was a very nice touch that made the place feel exotic.

Again, this is a place for total relaxation. Nothing is going on at nights, which we loved. It is very romantic and a great place to unplug from a busy life. We spend 4 nights which was a perfect amount of time. Longer, and we may have been a bit bored. But for us it was perfect.

“Major disappointment”

Paraiso de la Bonita

May 2, 2007
5/10 found this review helpful

This was our most disappointing resort experience ever and we have stayed at many 5+ star resorts. Our room was spacious, but otherwise there was paint chipping off of the furniture, there were multiple (large) stains on the furniture, the air conditioning was not working and the bed was rock hard. But perhaps the worst part of the room was that there were cockroaches and lizards in our room throughout our entire stay. We enquired twice about changing rooms but never got a response from the front desk. And to top it off, the service during our entire stay was horrendous. The only positive things we can say about this property is that the beach and pool area are beautiful.

“Beautiful but a little boring”

Our suite was gorgeous with a great view. The food was excellent. The service was good, although it had that sort of supercilious attitude common to resorts like this. However, the hotel is kind of in a no-man's-land, which meant we had to drive quite a distance to reach anything of interest off the grounds. I think it's probably a great destination if you want to just hang out and relax, but if you're looking for activities it is either dull or a lot of driving.

“Absolutely Exquisite”

Paraiso de la Bonita

5 of 5 stars
Pasadena, California

My husband and I had the most exquisite, truly relaxing vacation of our lives at the Paraiso. We're luxury adventure travelers (Burma, Tanzania, Inca Trail) but, this time, we just wanted pure luxury and perfect service - and that's what we got. Our daily routine consisted
of an hour of yoga (complimentary) on the grass overlooking pristine beach (watched by a thoughtful iguana), then a workout in the nice fitness room, followed by a treatment (thai massage, uxmal massage, seaweed exfolation, etc. - all were lovely) in the absolutely immaculate and truly beautiful Thalasso spa. (I mean immaculate - if I dried my hands and went to change, by the time I got back the little pyramid of handtowels had been restored to perfection - and I also mean gorgeous - the spa is spacious, the steamroom is truly hot and suffused with aromatic oils to clear your head, there are several
beautiful areas to relax inside, by the plunge pools, outside on a secluded patio facing the ocean.) Then we were on to lunch - sometimes having perfectly grilled Agentinian-style meat at the restaurant next to the beach, sometimes a delicious ham-mushroom quesadilla at the poolside bar while playing backgammon, always with attentive staff who knew our names and how we liked our margaritas. We'd read books on the beach beds (four-posters literally on the beach, comfortable mattresses, side curtains to shield from sun and breeze), walk down the pristine beach (pure white flour sand, not too deep to make walking difficult) (staff cleaned out the seagrass at the shoreline daily, so the beach truly was picture-perfect), borrow a dvd to watch on the sunbed by our suite's splash pool. Our suite was delightful: light cream fabrics, nice living area with tv/
dvd, spacious desk and free internet service, large bedroom with another tv, a grand bathroom with a tub for two and separate shower (with excellent water pressure and plenty of hot water!), lots of fresh bottled water. We usually had a cocktail at the library before dinner before a quiet dinner at La Canoa (lovely food, but try to eat
outside to enjoy the air) or even sandwiches in the library. (One night we went to Playa del Carmen at the recommendation of friends, but we thought it was too far for too little - and too touristy - and otherwise stayed at the resort - why leave paradise?) The absolute best part of Paraiso, however, is the lovely, kind, attentive staff - they quickly learned what we liked, answered every request, were always there but never in the way - and said, in response to every request warmly said, "It's my pleasure." Yes, it's expensive, but it's worth every penny to be surrounded by quiet, uncrowded, beautiful, thoughtfully-planned spaces, friendly professional staff, perfect weather and a private pristine beach, with birds calling and pheasants and geese strutting around, just a few other pleasant fellow guests enjoying themselves, too. It was truly the most relaxing mind-resting vacation we've ever enjoyed. Absolutely exquisite.
