“Beautiful But Boring”

Paraiso de la Bonita

My husband and I stayed there Feb 7 - 11 for a relaxing getaway. The resort was beautiful. The beach, pool, and rooms were perfect. We stayed at the beach everyday and had it all to ourselves. There were some reports of seaweed at the beach which made me skeptical. It turns out the beach was kept spotless, but about 20ft into the water there was nothing but seaweed. We could only swim (or should I say dip) near the shore. It really is unswimmable.

The only other negative is that it gets boring pretty quickly. We were there 5 days and spoke to no other guests. Everyone just kept to themselves. There is nothing to do at night except drive to Cancun (we did every night) or Playa del carmen. There is no nightly entertainment at all. In fact, the resort felt empty as if we were the only ones there.

Although beautiful and relaxing, we would not go back.

Paraiso de la Bonita is one of the finest resorts I have ever stayed at. The pictures of the place really can’t capture the magical and euphoric feelings generated by staying in such a secluded piece of paradise. You really feel like you are almost staying at your own private resort because of the exceptional service by the staff. My boyfriend and I stayed for six nights and the weather was perfect the entire time with a nice breeze throughout the days and nights. Though what really sets this resort apart from the others is the service from the dedicated and amazing staff members.

The exceptional service begins upon exiting the airport, when you are greeted by a friendly driver from Paraiso and ushered to one of their Lincoln Navigators where you are given cold towels, chilled water, and then driven to the beautiful resort. As the gates open personally for your arrival, you realize that you are entering paradise. The grounds are immaculately groomed and filled with lush plants, flowers, stunning birds, and friendly iguanas. The rooms are intricately decorated in various styles; Mexican, Caribbean, Oriental, etc. My boyfriend and I stayed in the gorgeous Aman suite, which is located on the 3rd level and is down an isolated walkway that leads only to this suite and a breathtaking view of the beach.

The suite was decorated in a tasteful Oriental design and the bathroom was my absolute favorite part of the suite with a large sunken tub for two, glass enclosed shower and gorgeous tile work. The suites with the plunge pool are private in some areas but I enjoyed having more privacy on the higher floors and a great view as well. I did not find the beds to be hard and we slept very comfortably, almost too much so. However, they serve breakfast until noon so there really is no rush. I was never disturbed by the tractor and it actually was finished more by 11 am than four pm. Just take a walk down to some of the other resorts' beaches nearby and tell me if a guy with a rake will adequately take care of a beach area the size of Paraiso’s. I would say the resort occupies a beach area more than twice the size of some of the neighboring resorts and the tractor isn't that disrupting at all.

The spa is fabulous and immaculately maintained by the friendly staff and extremely well-trained therapists. I highly recommend the Marine Prelude treatment with exfoliation; what a dream. The gym is great with all new equipment, flat-screen TV, but it is hard to take your eyes off the fabulous beach view from the gym. There are also complimentary yoga and Pilates classes on lawn overlooking the beach with a well-trained instructor.

The pool and beach service is the best I’ve ever experienced. No request is too small for the staff and they are very happy to accommodate you with whatever you may need, whether it’s extra pillows for the beach beds, drinks, lunch, or a refreshing Evian mist. They are just amazing! I’ve stayed a many wonderful beachfront resorts in the Caribbean and the service you receive here is unparalleled, mainly because the people who work here are so pleasant. The entire pool and beach scene is very serene and is for those who can truly sit back, relax, and take in the beautiful setting with the one you love, not for those looking for a rowdy party scene. I really enjoyed swimming in the ocean however the beach was nearly vacant as most people chose to lounge by the pool. In my opinion they were missing out on one of the best feautures of the Caribbean, the water, but whatever your taste you will find lots of comfortable double loungers or beach beds to relax on.

We really enjoyed the complimentary a la carte breakfast that came with our Luxury 4th night free package and ordered tons of yummy pastries, egg dishes, pancakes, etc (the package included 2- 50 minute massages, a 3 course dinner for two at their gourmet restaurants, and many other extras). We either had breakfast in our terrace overlooking the white sand beach and blue ocean, or at the wonderful breakfast and lunch restaurant Kaax by the pool and beach. The food there was really our favorite and my only complaint was that it wasn’t open for dinner. While the food at La Canoa, the gourmet restaurant, was okay, we found it to be a tad bland and over priced. However, the service was impeccable and the setting is beautiful. I enjoyed the grilled BBQ chicken at the casual beachside restaurant El Chiringuito and again the service was flawless.

I absolutely recommend going to John Gray’s Kitchen in Puerto Morelos (about 10 minute cab ride). We ate there twice and enjoyed starters such as a crispy goat cheese pizza, crab cakes, mushroom soup with truffle oil and delicious entrees like duck breast with a honey and tequila glaze, lamb chops, and grilled shrimp over macaroni and cheese with truffle oil. Do not miss this place! It has cozy and intimate setting and is very reasonably priced. A tip on dining in Mexico; always ask for the check or la cuenta when you are ready for it as it is customary for people to linger over an hour in Spanish countries and it is considered rude for the waiter to bring it before you ask.

Okay, back to the secluded paradise of Paraiso de la Bonita… They have many sailing experiences and water toys for the guests to use. We did a private 90 minute snorkel excursion at the nearby reef and it was quite a treat. I would highly recommend seeing the sights of the beautiful Riviera Maya and the concierge is very knowledgeable about some of the best excursions and sights in the region, the hardest part is leaving the beautiful resort! We had the best time and I’m already bugging my boyfriend to plan another trip back, and he definitely won’t mind. Come and experince the beauty and five star service of Paraiso de la Bonita for yourself; you won't be disappointed.

“Five Star Service”

Paraiso de la Bonita

5 of 5 stars

We stayed at Paraiso de la Bonita 6 nights. Overall the experience was excellent. The outstanding highlights were:
The location, service, friendly staff, food, spa treatments.
The rooms are spacious with a livingroom and separate bedroom and large bath with 2 sinks, huge tub and large shower.
This is the place to come for peace and quiet and chilling out.
The room service is fast and effecient. We ordered coffee each morning and it arrived in 10 minutes without fail.
The meals, (we only ate at the resort) were consistently delicious. There are 3 restaurants, only one serves breadkfast, and only 2 serve dinner each day.
The staff is unbelieveably friendly and attentive. Lorena, from the front desk who met us upon arrival and showed us around was wonderful. I had hurt my back and found it extremely difficult to climb the stairs to our room. When we asked Lorena if it was possible to switch to a ground floor room she wasted no time in securing us 2 choices. We were assisted with the move the next day. Definetely get the room with the plunge pool. Although another reviewer said there is no privacy the beach in fact is 70 yards from your terrace. We did not find our privacy compromised.
My husband and I had spa treatments everyday. We have visited many spas around the world over the years and would say the following:
The treatments were wonderful. My husband had 5 massages, I had 5 massages and a facial.
If we use as comparison the 4 Seasons Spas, Las Vegas hotel spas , Willow Stream spas ,or The Grove Park Inn spa, the spa at Paraiso de la Bonita was unremarkable. The lockers all had the same combination, so if you forgot which locker you were in it was very easy to mistakenly open someone elses in error. The spa is not plush but comfortable.
The hotel is very beautiful ( view from room is spectacular)although the rooms are only above average. We say so because the beds are rock hard, the sheets are not Frette or similar and the overall furnishings are stale. We have stayed at many hotels in the Cancun area and luxurious is not the word we would choose to describe this property.
The food in the restaurants although outstanding needs more variety. If you are staying 6 nights the choices become limited. Perhaps a theme night, Italian or similar would be refreshing.
My biggest complaint is that every morning at 8AM until noon( 4 hours nonstop) a tractor goes up and down the beach tilling the sand. Although the end result is a well groomed beach the noise and diesel smell RUIN the idyllic setting. One moment you are enjoying the view watching the pelicans overhead and listening to the surf and the next moment a noisy, smelly tractor comes lumbering by. Other hotels in Cancun use manual labor for this chore.
I would recommend this hotel to friends with the above footnotes.

“Beautiful place”

Paraiso de la Bonita

Jan 19, 2008

Good things:

The grounds are gorgeous, very quiet, clean and relaxing. They have a lot of animals all over the resort, ducks, geese, badgers, iguannas, parrots, birds, crocodiles, and peacocks. Pool area is so nice, they bring you whatever you want. The spa is wonderful. I would recommend that you take advantage of it. The staff take good care of you. Rooms are really nice. Breakfast was always yummy. The beach gets a lot of seaweed and so they have a man in a tractor clean it up every day. They pick you up from the airport in a nice Lincoln.

Bad things:

The restaurants were good, but a little bit unusual and very pricey. I wanted Mexican food and we had a lot of mayan food, something that was very different. They charge you $8 for their bottled water, so watch out for that. The beds were a bit hard.

“More Beautiful Than the Photos”

Paraiso de la Bonita

My friend and I wanted to get away for a long weekend to someplace beautiful and relaxing. This property exceeded our expectations. The service was impeccable. We were picked up in the Lincoln Navigator and given cool towels and water. We were greeted with iced tea by the hotel manager, then given a resort tour by a lovely woman named Luce. We had reserved a room with two beds, but were shown to a room with one. Luce immediately corrected the situation.

The grounds are breathtaking and they have lots of birds on the property -- a large, room-sized cage with six parrots and a host of other birds near the breakfast restaurant. There are several water features and beautiful landscaping.

The food was delicious and service perfect. I thought the prices were too high for cocktails, though, averaging about $5 for a beer to $14 for a mixed drink. It's also pretty far away from anything, so I would recommend renting a car if one desires to do any sightseeing. Otherwise, taxi service can get expensive.

It's a perfect, relaxing get away. Very quiet and the guests are treated like royalty.
