“Great Hotel: Park Royal Cancun”

Park Royal Piramides Cancun

5 of 5 stars
San Francisco
Mar 30, 2008

If you are looking for a great value for your money, this hotel is for you. One of the cheapest on the block amongst the all-inclusive, the hotel actually delivers great service!

Room: splurge and get yourself a presidential suite - completely worth it. The oversized balcony with the private tub is worth the upgrade alone.

Food: the ala carte restaurant is awesome - they have all sorts of liquor included - champaign, baily's, frangelico, etc. The steak was better than I've had for years. Make sure to TIP your server - otherwise he will be an [-] to you next time. We forgot to do that the first time around, and actually had to put cash on the table during the second dinner - so the waiter would serve us well.

Pools - pools were rather cold during March - the ocean was much warmer. For some reason the swim up bar is located in the pool with all the kids. But having adults-only pool is great.

We'd go there again!

“Very nice for the $$$”

Park Royal Piramides Cancun

Mar 29, 2008

We booked this trip on Orbitz about 6 months ago, when evrything else for Spring Break seemed to be booked up. Considering that, it was very reasonably priced and a great value. They have only 1 sit-down restaurant, 1 buffet restaurant, a snack bar (burgers, hot dogs, subs, nachos, etc) and put some stuff out on the Veranda at various times of the day. Sit down restaurant was very good (ask for Guillermo for waiter - much better than any other) and we ate dinner there very night. Buffet was fine for breahfast & lunch, bars start opening at 10am, all closed by midnight - have some great beers in the 2 restaurants (Corona, Modelo, Modelo Negra-amber), Corona on tap elsewhere and some good top shelf liquor brands - J&B, Ballantines, Bacardi, Jack Daniels, Smirnoff, Beefeater's.

The Royal Vacation salespeople were more of a bother than I had hoped, but just say no. Very clean, excellent staff, walking distance to shopping & other restaurants (if you want them), great beach area compared to others close by, pools are OK.

Again, not a top-tier Iberostar or similar, can't eat & drink 24/7 or eat at a different restaurant every night, but an excellent value for the money.

“Awesome Hotel!!!!!”

Park Royal Piramides Cancun

5 of 5 stars
Victoria, British Columbia
Mar 18, 2008

My boyfriend and I are in our early twenties. We stayed at the Park Royal Hotel at the end of January!
We upgraded our room for an extra $40 a night to a presidential suite. It was amazing. Had a beautiful room with a hot tub on patio that looked over Caribbean Sea. Amazing. worth every penny. Was a bit of a hassle to switch. But in end worked out splendid.
Overall the food was fantastic..........Lots of variety at buffet they did different themes every night! I'm a very picky eater and always found something to eat! The a la carte was hard to make a reservation for but if you slipped them a tip you could reserve for the days in advance! :)
All in all the resort was imacculately clean! Staff was always out cleaning and they were very friendly!
Beach was amazing. One of the best beaches we saw
We walked up and down beach and noticed we had a nicer beach than some of the newer hotels!!!!!
We booked day trips from Aqua World at the booth by the pool. Our travel agent from sunwing advised us to book only through him. We booked many trips through aqua world and had an amzing time. There staff is so energetic and they make sure all your tours are a blast!
My recommendation is that the Park Royal is an awesome place to go for the price you stay! It's not fancy by any means. But is very nice, easy to get around and we would definietly stay here again.
ANd its also across the street from a shopping center! A big one! And very close to airport iand town!
Cheers,
Kerri and Nathan

“Very Nice Indeed!”

Park Royal Piramides Cancun

Stayed at the Park Royal from March 8-15th in a Presidential Suite. We were a family of 4 adults and a 12 year old boy. We had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a laid-back atmosphere in which to soak up the sun, surf the waves and relax. The hotel lives up to the many favourable reviews others have written. It is impeccably clean, the staff are all very nice and the food was very good. Here are my thoughts by category:

BUFFET: Never mind the naysayers who didn't like the buffet. People who want mega choices at every meal should go stay at a mega resort! The food is of high quality and there was sufficient choice at every meal to please everyone in our party. Plenty of shrimp, fish and seafood (calamari, octupus, mussels, etc.) presented in varying ways (either as a soup, in the salads or on their own). The last day's buffet lunch they served the most tender sole stuffed with seafood! One day at lunch they had a huge New York slab of beef they were slicing up. Plenty of chicken dishes and mexican fare as well. The quacamole at the buffet was very tasty and it is the only place in the resort where you can get it.

A LA CARTE: We ate at the Italian restaurant 3 nights during our stay and each experience was just awesome. The grilled steak, the Mahi Mahi, the seafood pasta, the chicken parmigiana - all EXCELLENT! The antipasto/salad bar was most surprisingly good. The wines also very good and the waiters will make you special coffees if you ask - they are not listed on the menu. Very attentive service from the moment we walked in to the minute we left.

POOLS: Are on the small side but were never crowded. The deck chairs go quickly (in the prime spots) but there was never an issue finding somewhere to sit close by.

BEACH: Very nice - lots of chairs and loungers. A life guard is on duty and keeps a good eye on what's going on in the water. The surf is rough and not good for very small children, except perhaps on a very calm day (otherwise it is just too windy a location for the surf to be calm).

BARS: All good - the pool bar has some nice bankette type seating that is in the shade. The bar near the beach has a whole patio with shade where you can sit with your drink and the snacks you got from the nearby Le Jardin snack bar and watch the ocean and feel the cool breeze. The lobby bar is very nice as well, but too smokey for my liking. It is the only bar that is enclosed and that's why I noticed it so much.

ENTERTAINMENT: Practically non-existent. They do have some pool side activities during the day and they try hard, but there really isn't the space to do a lot of stuff. The PA system could use an overall. We played Bingo one afternoon, but didn't catch any nighttime activity at all.

CLIENTELE: As one other reviewer has mentioned, we were surprised to see March/Spring breakers at the hotel, but they really didn't detract from our holiday in any way. There is no nightime activity at the hotel so I'm assuming they left for other, more exciting environments since I can't say I ever was disturbed by any rowdiness, other than the first day they arrived and drank up a storm at every bar in sight! Other guests were couples, with and without children, some young and some old and some in-between. Lots of Spanish speaking guests at the hotel as well.

And last, but not least, the STAFF:

What an amazing group of people. Do not pay attention to those comments about communication being a problem. In the restaurants ( both buffet and a la carte) the waiters spoke very passable English, certainly much better than my feeble attempts at speaking Spanish!. They were there at your table within seconds (okay, sometimes a minute) to take your drink order. At breakfast they offer you toast and bacon for the table and juice (but you can always get your own juice from the buffet) and arrive with coffee (which they leave at your table) once they've served you.

TIPPING: We tipped more than we ever have on other holidays. They absolutely deserve it and are so thankful for whatever you provide so you don't mind giving a little extra. We were 5 people and in total we may have tipped about $100 for the week.

That's it - if you've got specifics to ask let me know and I'll try my best to get back to you.

We just returned from our stay at the Park Royal. Our stay was very much worth the long layover to get to our destination. We had a great time. The buffet was not that great, but aside from that it was very nice. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They did thier best to make it an enjoyable stay for all. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
