“Wedding/Honeymoon of Dreams at CasaMagna”

Marriott CasaMagna Cancun Resort

I have so many things to say, but let me begin with saying that this hotel is AMAZING! I have stayed at a lot of nice places, and the CasaMagna exceeded my expectations. Our room was great with incredible views. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. The hotel itself is gorgeous with a stunning lobby. The entire resort, including the rooms are kept immaculate. The pool area was great and we never had a problem finding a chair (and there were 40 of us). Although the beach has been washed away, this was not a problem here. There was a large area with chairs on the beach and an area for volleyball. We had long walks on the beach without a problem. However, it is a bit rocky trying to get in the water, but if you walk a few minutes up the beach you can easily get in.

The staff at the CasaMagna are the friendliest people I have ever met. They went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Francisco Roman was my wedding planner. He ROCKS!!! Thanks to him I had the wedding of my dreams and stress free. I actually did very little planning and Francisco did the majority of everything. It could not have been more perfect or beautiful. Although this may be a little bias, I have to say this was one of the best weddings I have ever been to. The food was delicious; one of the best meals I ever had! Our DJ (David Carrillo) was surperb and played the best music. We were worried that we did not pick out our own music, but the music he played was better then we imagined. Everyone was dancing the whole night. All of our friends were so impressed with our wedding and how smoothly everything went. I could not be happier with EVERYTHING!

Back to the hotel and Cancun...if you do not want to leave the resort you do not have to. There are at least 6 places to eat dinner. We ate at the Thai restaurant. The restaurant was very chill and the food was above average. I eat thai at least once a week and this place was not the best, but definetely worth going to again (we ate there twice). Mikados is also a place you must go to. I had some of the best sushi I ever had in my life-really. The Caribe roll is a must. The brunch at La Capilla was also very good. Most days we ordered room service for brkfst. Quick service and very good. Across the street is La Dolce Vita. We had our rehearsal dinner there and it was EXCELLENT. Another must do in Cancun is Pericos (concierge recommended this-they are very helpful). Pericos is one of the craziest places I have ever been to. The food was great and we had so much fun. You have to go there to understand. They even married us in front of the entire restaurant! Another amazing meal was at the Casitas at the Ritz. You eat on the beach in your own hut. The service and food were five stars. If you go with a larger group, it is not as expensive. However, we had the most romantic meal by ourselves. Definitely worth spending the extra bucks for. We went to CocoBongos on Friday. It was the craziest club I have ever gone to. A lot of fun, but VERY loud, crowded, and bad drinks. We did not take any excursions b/c we had too good of a time drinking poolside. However, some of our family went to Xcaret and Xel-Ha and loved it.

Overall, I could not have asked for a better wedding and honeymoon. We are already planning to go back. If you go to Cancun, save your money on the Ritz (which was very lame) and stay at the CasaMagna.

(If you want to see more pics of how the wedding was set up, please let me know.)

“MCM's Good & Bad”

Marriott CasaMagna Cancun Resort

Jun 24, 2008

My wife and I spent 5 nights here then spent 5 nights at the Hilton – we hotel-hopped. We were celebrating our 5-yr anniversary. This was my 4th trip to Cancun but 1st post-Wilma. It was my wife’s 2nd visit and 1st post-Wilma. Here is our OPINION of the hotel and since we also stayed at the Hilton, I’ll make some comparisons in case you are trying to decide where to stay. Both hotels are in the same price range. You can also cross reference my review of the Hilton.

Room – Upon arrival, we upgraded to a beautiful room overlooking the beach on the top floor for an extra $50/night. The room was ready for us early. It was very clean and well appointed with everything we requested – extra pillows and towels. We never had to ask maid service for anything. The bed was super comfy as others have reported. We got a fridge for only $5/day to keep our own beer and water in; there is a mini-mart right across the street. We had a full balcony unlike the Hilton which gave us a small step-out number. The Hilton’s room was not as clean either. We enjoyed our room here more than at the Hilton. If there was anything negative at all to say about our room at the MCM, it might be that the bathrooms were a touch small. Also, they should have offered express check out. We actually had to wait a bit to check out. The Hilton did offer express checkout.

Pool/Beach – I’m sorry to say that this is there weak spot! The chairs are of the cruise ship variety, they’re packed in, and they run out of umbrellas quickly. They also do not have enough palapa huts on the beach either. The layout of the pool is boring and small. There is a bench rather than stools at the swim-up bar that forces you to face out to the beach. I see what they meant to accomplish here but it is actually uncomfortable. The Hilton’s pool and beach were superior to the MCM’s in every way.

Food – Ate lunch and/or b-fast each day onsite but had dinners out. B-fast here is quite good at LaCapilla – much better variety and quality than at the Hilton. Lunch was about the same as Hilton’s but the MCM had better variety and it was cheaper.

Service – This is where the MCM shines! We received exceptional service at the MCM. Every employee we passed offered a genuine, friendly greeting. They made you feel welcome. In fact, every time you enter the hotel the doormen hold the door open and do just that, welcome you back and ask you how your day/night have been! Some of the staff actually treated us like royalty – not that we were looking for that - friendly is good enough. For example, each night before dinner we would have a cocktail or two and listen to the live band at the very chic lobby bar.

[Tip: Try the frozen mojito made with ice cream at the lobby bar during happy hour. It is their signature cocktail and to die for even after you find out the cost.]

Our server Miriam would start with, “Good evening. My name is Miriam and it is with great pleasure that I may serve you this fine evening. May I offer you some pistachios, mixed nuts, or pretzels to accompany your drinks tonight?” No words could replicate our experience - it was all in her delivery. We obviously took good care of Miriam as I’m sure others do, as well. Service at the Hilton was spotty with a few exceptions.

Grounds – Spotless throughout and modern for a Cancun classic. The ambiance is elegant with beautiful floral bouquets throughout, marble, and wood accents. We loved how when we entered the lobby we immediately smelled the lovely aromas from the flowers and the air conditioning was enough to offer immediate relief from the heat of the day without causing any freezer burn, if you catch my drift. The Hilton offered a tropical feel but it did not feel elegant compared to the Marriott.

Summary - Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here. Where the hotel is lacking compared to the Hilton, they make up for it with their exceptional service, food, and rooms. For this reason we really liked hotel-hopping since we got to experience the best both hotels had to offer. In our opinion, the Hilton is a 3 – 3.5 star hotel. It would be a hands-down 4 if not for the pool deficiencies. Perhaps the JW next time? Not sure if the nicer pool at the JW is worth so much more. If you book here at the MCM however, you should have a great time!

“Loved the CasaMagna,Cancun”

We just returned from 7 glorious days at the CasaMagna Marriott, Cancun. You will not go wrong by vacationing at this lovely resort. The grounds & gardens were immaculate, lobby was airy, beautiful flowers, and the room was large, clean, ocean-front, spacious, and had nice white linens. We had adjoining rooms with other family members who also had a very nice room. We tried each of the hotel restaurants over the week, and we had great service and delicious food at each one. La Capilla was first-class.
One comment- - - people who think they are privy to taking food from the buffets for their consumption later on, are basically stealing, and they are the ones who make prices climb higher for the rest of us. (see previous review from a traveler)
All the waiters were professional and courteous and spoke english and were so willing to make each meal a joy and experience. The staff at the hotel were kind and helpful. The pool was large and clean, and the hot tub was really nice and enjoyable. Beach volleyball was offered from time to time by fun, friendly staff, which made for a good time for anyone who chose to participate. Chairs at poolside were always available as were large blue towels. Families were welcome, treated nicely, and all in all, anyone who stays at this hotel will be very, very pleased.

“Loved the Casa Magna, Definitely coming back!!”

Well, My wife and I wanted to go somewhere special on our third wedding anniversary, so we started looking for places in the Caribbean. We were on a pretty limited budget, but wanted a nice, clean hotel, surrounded by beautiful water and white sand beaches, with great restaurants and friendly people... We found all of that and more in the Casa Magna.
We arrived on a Friday to begin our 7 day stay and had booked the Premium Ocean View room/ Non smoking. We were pleased when we found out that it was on the 5th floor, and was basically overlooking the beach. We couldn't have asked for a better view. The room was very clean and smelled good. And the bedding was pretty soft. The Bathroom looked very clean and the towels smelled clean. When we went to check out the beach, we were still disappointed, but not really that much because we had read all the reviews here saying the beach was lacking all along Hotel Zone. This hotel is one of the ones with a pretty OK beach( JW has NONE!). It does have it's share of rocks, but there are spots where you can wade through and not be on rock. Anyway, the actual beach is there, and you can lay out and dip yourself in to cool off.
The first time we ate at the hotel, we ate at Midakos for Teppan Yaki. I liked it, comparable to Shogun in the US, but my wife thought it was only so-so.
On our last night, we ate at La Capilla the Argentine Steak House. It was by far the best meal we had in Cancun. The Filet was huge and tasted Great! I had Shrimp and Artichoke pasta. They even made my wife some special bernaise sauce just for her. The Service was impeccable, as it was through out the hotel. The prices at the different restaurants are all pretty reasonable even if they are a little pricey. Portions in the restaurants are generous.
There is a slight language barrier with some of the staff you will come in contact with the least such as turn down service, hostesses, housekeepers... But hey...don't be a lazy American... Learn some Spanish phrases and try a little of it... when they see you try, they try right back and you will make it work. As for the general staff, they are all fluent and everyone bent over backwards to help us. Room service was quick, but portions are small and prices are high, so be prepared.
One thing I will mention was that we wished we had spent more time in our room. We did a lot of activities for free every day ( Chichen Itza, Snorkel, Jungle Tour) because we attended a short meeting for another hotel chain in the area. We thought we got suckered at the airport, but it all turned out great. Ended up saving us about $600 we would have spent in tours and activities) Don't hesitate to hear them out before you catch your shuttle or Taxi.

FYI... here is a tip for getting the most out of your stay. 7-11 and OXXO are right across the street. They sell bottled water, soft drinks, snacks etc... for DIRT CHEAP compared to the hotel. So when you get there, Go stock up on some of that stuff. It will save you from eating that $3 Snickers in the mini bar in your room!

    • Liked — The hotel was all new inside and the service was top notch.
    • Disliked — My Bath tub clogged on our third day, but was fixed immediately also the mini-bar is outrageously priced. Bring Snacks with you.
