Just returned from a terrific family vacation at the CasaMagna Marriott Cancun. We stayed 5/17/08-5/24/08 and had essentially no rain and all sun (with some wind at the end) but it helped keep us feeling cool in the hot sun.
We booked through US Airways Vacations and booked the Escape Inclusive Package, which is basically All Inclusive. This was a great choice for us as we were travelling with extended family and three young children whose eyes are always bigger than their stomachs. I RECOMMEND THE ALL INCLUSIVE FOR FAMILIES IF IT IS AVAILABLE! I know it is a Marriott promotion which is not always available.
The Property: The property itself is beautifully landscaped and maintained with a beautiful lobby and grounds.
The Rooms: As many have written, the rooms are quite attractive and have been redone with Plasma TVs etc. The room size is reasonable if not a tad small but very comfortable and immaculate. The Room Service was excellent and responsive for us.
Overall Service: I have never been to a hotel where universally the staff was so outstanding. Our whole group was extremely impressed with the staff and help at this resort. Friendly beyond compare!
FOOD: As I mentioned, as a resort which is not all-inclusive regularly the quality of the food was outstanding...from the steaks and seafood at La Capilla, to the hibachi grill at the Japanese Mikado, to the Thai restaurant, to the Champions Sports Bar and Grill, to the breakfast Buffett. Great choices, great quality, and great service. We were a large group and can be picky...all in our group were extremely pleased with the food. You will gain weight on all-inclusive...we all did!
Kids: Very kid friendly resort...great pool and kids pool...and a great kids club that bends over backwards to make a great time for kids. We used the kids club for a couple of hours on two of our days and the kids WANTED to go again. Always the ultimate test!
BEACH: Obviously a big issue in Cancun is the Beach and its condition. It was a big concern for me having read many reviews in the past. The truth is that the Beach is beautiful! The sand is gorgeous and the water is stunning. NO BEACH LICE HERE. Having never been to Cancun before, I cannot comment on how wide the beach was before, but it was plenty wide for chairs, playing, palapas, walking, even a full volleyball court. There were some exposed rocks in entering the water in one section but huge expanses were completely clear of rocks...not an issue to our group. The kids played in the sand many times and loved it. The waves were too big for the kids in our group to go in without full adult supervision...but for adults who like to bodysurf...it was perfect. The beach minus the waves for kids was a hit!
Pools: As I said, the pools were beautiful, chairs always available! We spent much time here and enjoyed it very much along with the poolside drink and food service...being all-inclusive...I must admit to over-indulging here!
In summary, I couldn't recommend a resort more highly. It is immaculate...with a quality and cleanliness that Marriott is well known for. We would return in a heart beat and plan to whether or not the All-Inclusive is available...this is a great place for families!
