We went to this hotel for our honeymoon November 4-13. Well, overall, the hotel was amazing and well exceeded any expectations me or my husband ever had.
When we arrived in Mexico, customs didn't take long at all. Be sure to bring a pen to fill out immigrations forms on the plane and fill out the bottom, too (a lot of people got sent back because they didn't fill it out). We even got selected for a random luggage check (in front of everyone and they even pulled out my retainer, very embarrassing) but it wasn't too time consuming. As you walk out of the airport there is the sea of travel agents trying to sell time shares, but ignore them and walk by, they should go on. Then outside the airport is a ton of car services. If you booked through olumpus (likely through liberty mutual), its kind of confusing but look for any one with an orange shirt and they will point you the right way. They then give you a spiel about how mexico time shares can rip you off and to beware. Then they take your round trip form (which sounded fishy and kind of worried us, several people even asked to speak to a supervisor because it sounded funny) and gave us an appointment to meet with a representative. They then give you a trip to the hotel.
Once you arrive at the hotel, you sit down at a desk and give you some hyacinth juice and a carnation and book you into your room. Your luggage is transported to your room. They then take you to another desk where they go over the tours that are free and invite you to take their time share talk. They were up front with what tours were available. They then let you go to your room. We were in room 420 and it was a honeymoon suite with partial oceanview with lagoon view as well. We then went to the appointment with Olympus and they try to sell you tours and then arrange your pick up time. They are nice and weren't too pushy.
The room was amazing with Lays chips, Snickers, Peanut M&M's, and a lot of drinks. The temp was in the 80's but the breeze was very strong which was cooling so it was great weather ( I can't handle I lot of heat, so I was very happy with it).
Food: There were a lot of mistakes in the book in the room. We went to BlancStage, which was supposed to be casual with a variety of dishes but ended up being the gourmet 7 dish place. I was very hesitent because it was so fancy and I don't drink wine. It was really good, I was very surprised. All dinner restaurants are casual elegance (no shorts) regardless of what it says in the book. The Japanese was my husbands favorite and the Italian was my favorite. We went to the international place once and it was great as well. The breakfast was buffet and was great with lots of fruits, cheeses, eggs made to order, etc. Lunch was great too, with any meat you ever wanted made to order and a variety of dishes. The desserts were to die for and their were a ton of ice creams that were great. I ate ice cream every day. The honeymooners dinner was great with filet mignon and lobster tail. ( I am not a seafood person, but everyone else seemed pleased).
The beach was kind of eroded and was not very large, but it was still very nice. I saw pictures from June and it was definitely smaller this time. There was no swimming either day due to the choppiness of the ocean. surrounding beaches had swimming and were calmer but the water was very cold. The pools were great and the drinks never ended. There were meals offered by poolside around lunch. I wasn't that impressed with room service or the variety (they were out of half of what I wanted). The hamburger and fries was good, though.
We did the chichen Itza tour through olympus and the jungle tour through le blanc. We chose the mid level chichen itza (upper level included wine and such with the lunch, etc). Food was good for the buffet. It was great, but the vendors are very annoying, you say no and they don't stop (when they say $1 they mean $1 off). The jungle tour was great with snorkeling. There were tons of fish that got real close, amazing. We didn't do the other tours. Be careful, some dont' include the fees for snorkeling so they can be more expensive then paying for the tour once you add it up.
The hotel gave us a 150 spa credit, so I did the Q4 stone massage with seaweed wrap and facial. It was great and the pre spa treatments were great as well.
The rooms were very clean but be sure to use the "do not disturb" sign. They can come at any time, and actually got the door open before we could answer. A lot of times they didn't refill the snacks and twice they came after 9:30 when we had the sign up so the bed didn't get turned down.
There were several malls, one in each direction but they are not like america, they really hassle you, even the restaurants, even from across the street. Be aware.
Overall, sitting by the pool or the ocean was great and this honeymoon was a dream. I wouldn't want anything more. We definitely plan on going back again soon. We would reccomend it to anyone!
