We went to Cancun as a family of 5 . Me and my husband and our 3 kids (5, 10 and 14 years old) . As soon as we got to the lobby we were amazed ! the service was incredible .As soon as we walked into the lobby they gave us drinks and there was food . The only thing was they talked to us for about 45 minutes and all we wanted to do was to get in our rooms and explore the place. We stayed on the 4th floor in the Carib towers.

ROOMS: At first we though the room was nice , it had the most beautiful ocean view. Be careful when you take a shower or a bath to keep the shower curtain inside or else your floors will be soak and wet . If you don't keep the AC on all night , you'll wake up in a river , literly a foot of water in your room . The rooms are not luxurious at all . So if your use to luxury these rooms will not meet your demands.

BEACH. The beach was absolutely beautiful ! there are a few big rocks in the water but you just have to be careful. I wouldn't suggest letting your 2 year old going in the water because of the heavy undertow and the salty sea water. My 14 year old daughter just sucked in and hit her legs an arms on the rocks and got beat up pretty badly . But other then that , it was great ! They also have 3 showers to wash of by the beach and a massage table which is quite beautiful.

POOLS. Oh my gosh the pool was amazing. If you go to this place and your staying in the Carib tower go swimming in the Solaris pool by the main lobby , its much better. The carib pool is dirty looking but they have 2 hot tubs that over look the ocean.Go to the main pool its only about a minute walk , not long at all . The pool was fantastic, they always had activities going on around there and entertainment . The servers are always there asking if you want drinks , you will never go thirsty or hungry . There is a swim up bar which was also amazing. They have every drink there that you can imagine! The pool is pretty big so you wont get bored. I prefer the pool better then the beach because it was colder and there was no salt in it.

KIDS CLUB : they have a kids club and its for kids 4-12 years old. My kids went to it everyday , i let them choose to go to it or not and they did. They loved it! they kids club is great, they have they're own pool away from the main pool , they, have water slides and activities and everything.

ENTERTAINMENT: They had shows every night and they were pretty good. I strongly recommend going to the shows . Bring your kids with you they will like it too ! my 5 year old was in love with the dancing and sat through the shows every night without saying a word. They're is alot of entertainment at this hotel , you will never get bored . "HINT" if you go here with your kids, try to talk to the staff alot and participate in all the contest and watch all the shows, if you do ,, you just might win family of the week ! We won family of the week ! the last night you are there they have a show and you go up on stage and get an award ! it was really fun ! there are many awards and prizes you can win ! my daughter (14) won the a few contest and got free t-shirts and raps. My husband won some drinking contest and got some stuff too , and my youngest daughter won a dance contest!

FOOOD: The food was really good , they have alot of restaurants at this place ! GO TO THE BREAKFEST BUFFET ! its amazing, the omelettes are to die for . The only thing is about the food is that the deserts aren't good. They all taste the same , we didn't really enjoy them .

This place is great ! you will get to know the staff very well because they are so friendly and will remember your names . The rooms aren't the best but you will hardly ever be in your room if you stay here. The entertainment is very good , you will never get bored, The food is amazing except for the deserts , the beach is beautiful be careful of the rocks ! Cancun is beautiful but next time we go we will NOT be returning to the Solaris. But i strongly recommend this for first time travelers with kids. Not a place to go on spring break . Its a family place.

“Fantastic”

Hi everyone... Me and my brother stayed in the Royal Solaris Caribe from the 14th June to 28th June 2008 and found it to be fantastic!!! Just ignore these moaning old farts that rate this complex 1,2 or 3 out of 5 cos they are whingers that go on holiday and pick out petty little faults which almost every hotel in the world will have! I always say a holiday is what you make it where ever you go and can not fault this hotel... The beach its on is beautifull and the sea is so warm its like a warm bath. The waves can be on the big side but it was more fun for me. People say about the underwater current that pulls you out, what a load of rubbish!!! What it does is moves you sideways (NOT OUT) and once you get in its only chest deap for quite away so its very very safe. The hotel pool was brilliant with loads of activities, food and drink at hand. The staff were the best i've ever seen on any resort and work there socks off to make your holiday as comfortable as possible. The hotel room was basic but very very clean and yes you do get condensation in the room but hey what do you expect when its 100'F outside with 90% humidity!!! (ITS TROPICAL REMEMBER) The weather was unbelievable... It was between 90'F-100'F every day with humidity around 90%... We got a couple of days with massive thunder storms which were spectcular to watch and dropped the humidity by quite a bit but the next day it was boiling again. The food on the complex was amazing i just cant fault it. The a la carte restaurants were fantastic with a good selection of food for everyone. I recomend everyone to do the dolphins at Xel Ha its unbelievable. It cost us $249 each which is only £125 with unlimited food and drink. I also recomend the trip to Isla Contoy which is an uninhabited island with beautiful unspoilt beaches. Its just pure paradise and only cost $75 each about £38 with unlimited drink and a massive beach barbaque. The nightlife in downtown Cancun is excellent with Coco Bongo being the best nightclub out the lot. The shows they put on in there are spectacular and it only costs $40 (£20) to get in with free drink yes free drink all night!!! This holiday was the best holiday i've ever had and would highly recomend this hotel to anyone... I would'nt say it was a 5 star but for a hotel thats been here for 20 years ( YES 20 YEARS) i think its hard to beat! After all we only paid £925 each for 2 weeks All Inclusive which is just incredible!!!!!! We will definatly be back to the Royal Solaris in the future.....

“A Few Bad Experiences”

Royal Solaris Cancun

Jul 10, 2008
1/2 found this review helpful

First of all, do not stay at the Solaris expecting a fancy resort. We usually stay at Bahia resorts, and this was about 2 stars lower than any of those. If you are used to staying somewhere like Iberostar, this place is not for you.

When we checked in, the hotel did not have the requests we made through Expedia. ATTN: DO NOT BOOK THROUGH EXPEDIA. They promised us a King Bed, rooms in the Caribe Tower and Luxury rooms, and NONE of these requests were filled. Expedia was also not willing to help us at all, or speak to us about those problems. I would never book through Expedia ever again.

More about the hotel:

DO NOT STAY IN THE ROYAL TOWER. The rooms are old and musty, worse than a Motel 6. We were originally placed there, and after many tears were moved to Caribe Tower, which was much nicer. The Royal Tower is honestly just gross, the elevators are tiny and hot and if you - good luck in those.

Watch out for the people in the hotel trying to sell you timeshares to the GR Solaris. They will give you a tour of the hotel, be very friendly and then PUSH you about the timeshare. When we told him we weren't interested and just wanted to enjoy our vacation, he talked about us in Spanish, which I understand. So watch out for these people, who appear nice but just want to sell you something.

PROS:
Food in Veneto, which has great service and great entrees. The staff in Veneto is very friendly and willing to help you with whatever you need.

The Beach- absolutely gorgeous.

The Pool- The Royal pool is a lot of fun with many activities and the Caribe pool is a little more calm, but also nice. The food at the pool is really good, I mean for Mexico.

CONS:
Rude Staff
Outdated Hotel
Bad Main Buffet

Overall- You will like this place if you are not picky about rooms or food, and just want to drink and party. There were a lot of single people, so if you are single it would be a good place. But if you are looking for a nice hotel with great service and great food, this is not the place.

“If you are used to luxury do not go there”

I ignored the bad reviews on this site and went to the hotel anyway, big mistake. The hotel is not in the hotel zone and the pictures of the hotel are not accurate. It is an older hotel and not luxurious. It is not located in a nice area of Cancun. There are so many other hotels and if you have never been to Cancun, heed my advice and do go to another hotel. The staff was very nice and helpful and I gave them great tips and got great service. The food was okay, but not something to rave about. The drinks were not premium and appeared to be watered down. The intense pressure by people inside the hotel to purchase a timeshare was an instant turn off for me. The sales pitches for the timeshare started right after check-in. I did like the nightly entertainment. When I return, I will stay at Dreams, Riu, or the Marriott. I spent the entire vacation wanting to be in another hotel.

“Hated It!!!”

I would never stay here again! No bottled water for their guests. You have to beg them for it. Bad room and then we upgraded for a beach view, which cost us $180.00. When we got to the room the water presure tinkled out of the shower, and the air in the room was a nightmare. All my clothes and the sheets were soaked from the air in the room. Food sucked!!!!!! Dirty and the help is not willing to do much to help you. Everytime you complain or ask for something they just agree with you that their hotel does suck. They tell you there are comment cards. That is the answer to everything. Save yourself the money and stay at the Palace Resorts. We did a prensentation there and their hotel chain is awesome. They let s stay there for the day and we had bottled water, great food a clean pool, and much better guests. The lobby where the shows are in the Solaris is an absolute joke. Don't Go There!!!!! Its Sucked. I told them I would write this and they said ok we understand. Way to back your hotel up! GR Solaris was much nicer, I will say that.
